Job Description WELDER / FABRICATOR – ARCHITECTURAL & CUSTOM METALS MetalArc, LLC | Englewood, CO | Full-Time | On-Site $24–$28/hour, depending on experience and demonstrated capability MetalArc is hiring a mid-level Welder / Fabricator for our architectural and miscellaneous metals shop in Englewood. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone who already has solid welding and fabrication fundamentals and can contribute productively with normal shop supervision. You do not need to be a senior fabricator or crew lead, but you should be comfortable working from drawings, dimensions, and direction to produce accurate, clean finished work. Our projects include stairs, railings, guards, gates, canopies, frames, brackets, structural supports, and custom architectural metalwork in carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and occasionally brass. WHAT YOU'LL DO • Cut, fit, tack, weld, grind, and finish fabricated metal assemblies., • Fabricate railings, guards, gates, frames, stairs, brackets, and miscellaneous metalwork., • Lay out work from shop drawings, dimensions, templates, and cut lists., • MIG weld carbon steel to a clean, consistent standard., • Check dimensions, square, level, fit-up, weld quality, and finish quality throughout fabrication., • Use saws, grinders, drills, welding equipment, ironworking equipment, and common fabrication tools., • Work independently on straightforward assemblies and alongside senior fabricators on more complex work., • Identify drawing, fit-up, or fabrication problems before they become rework., • Assist with local field installation when required. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS • 2+ years of relevant welding/fabrication experience, or equivalent demonstrated ability., • Solid MIG welding ability on carbon steel., • Practical experience fitting and assembling fabricated metal components., • Accurate tape-measure use and basic fabrication math., • Ability to perform basic layout from dimensions and drawings., • Ability to read and work from basic shop drawings., • Experience with common cutting, grinding, drilling, welding, and finishing tools., • Ability to work productively without continuous instruction., • Good attention to fit-up, alignment, weld appearance, and finished quality., • Dependable attendance and ability to work effectively in a small-shop environment. We care more about demonstrated fabrication ability and workmanship than an exact number of years in the trade. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Experience in any of the following is a plus: • Architectural or miscellaneous metals., • Railings, guards, stairs, gates, or structural/miscellaneous steel., • TIG or flux-core welding., • Stainless steel or aluminum fabrication., • Field installation., • Rigging and material handling., • Forklift operation., • More advanced shop-drawing interpretation. You do not need experience in every area above. WHAT GOOD WORK LOOKS LIKE HERE Much of what we build becomes a finished architectural product that customers will see and use every day. We expect: • Accurate fit-up., • Straight, square, and properly aligned assemblies., • Clean welds appropriate to the finished product., • Careful grinding and finish work., • Attention to drawing dimensions and details., • Problems to be caught before they become rework., • Pride in the finished product. Speed matters, but not at the expense of quality. POSITION LEVEL This is a mid-level fabrication position. You should already know how to weld, measure, fit, grind, use common shop tools, and complete basic fabrication work without being taught the fundamentals. You are not expected to function as a senior fabricator, foreman, or project lead. More experienced fabricators are available for complicated layouts, unusual assemblies, difficult drawings, and higher-level fabrication decisions. There is room to take on more difficult and independent work as your capability grows. SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION • Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week., • Consistent weekday schedule., • Some flexibility between 5x8 and 4x10 scheduling depending on shop needs., • Overtime may be available when workload requires it and is generally voluntary., • Primarily shop fabrication with occasional local field/install work., • $24–$28/hour, based on demonstrated welding and fabrication capability. WORK SAMPLES REQUIRED Applicants must have photos of previous welding or fabrication work they personally performed. We want to see the quality and type of work you have actually produced. Useful examples include: • Railings or stairs., • Gates or frames., • Welded assemblies., • Structural or miscellaneous steel., • Stainless or aluminum work., • Other custom fabrication. If the application system does not allow you to attach photos, you must be prepared to provide them during the initial screening process. Be prepared to briefly explain what you fabricated and what portions of the work you personally completed. Applicants who cannot provide examples of prior fabrication work may not be considered for an in-person shop interview. Qualified applicants may also be asked to complete a practical welding/fabrication test.
