Job Description Job Title: Material Handler – Receiving & Shipping Job Description This full-time, first-shift Material Handler role in the receiving and shipping area focuses on safely receiving, processing, storing, and distributing metal products within a plant environment. You will operate material handling equipment, move and locate inventory, pull and package material according to work orders and shop practices, and help maintain a clean, organized warehouse. The position requires strong attention to safety, quality, and teamwork while supporting efficient warehouse and production operations. Responsibilities • Complete basic, routine warehouse tasks by following detailed instructions and established shop flow., • Pull and assemble customer and production orders by reviewing work orders, shipping orders, and other documentation., • Coordinate and execute material handling activities to move inventory and equipment for storage, processing, loading, and unloading., • Operate yard trucks, forklifts, and overhead cranes to safely load and unload trailers and move materials throughout the facility., • Sort, package, and tag parts and materials as directed to ensure proper identification and traceability., • Complete all required work order paperwork and documentation accurately and on time., • Perform quality control inspections to verify that materials and orders meet specifications and standards., • Conduct spot checks on inventory, including daily and ad hoc checks, to confirm proper tagging and identification of materials., • Report any irregularities, discrepancies, or safety concerns to a supervisor for direction and resolution., • Follow and enforce applicable safety and quality standards, procedures, and company policies at all times., • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area, including regular housekeeping and organization of materials and equipment., • Communicate effectively with teammates, supervisors, and internal customers to support smooth workflow and problem resolution., • Assist with general warehouse support functions and any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor. Essential Skills • Valid driver’s license., • 0–5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities., • Ability to demonstrate adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limbed coordination for material handling tasks., • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and apply them to work situations., • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form., • Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly., • Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions accurately., • Ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment., • Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of knowledge, experience, and judgment., • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and 60 pounds repetitively., • Ability to stand for sustained periods of time during the shift., • Ability to push or pull up to 80 pounds of force., • Ability to repeatedly climb on and off truck trailers throughout the shift., • Willingness and ability to work in temperatures above 100°ree;F and below 32°ree;F as required by the job., • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, internal customers, and vendors., • Ability to obtain certification to operate all required motorized material handling and rigging equipment., • Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications used in warehouse or production environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Warehousing and material handling experience is preferred., • Experience with shipping and receiving operations is a strong plus., • Overhead crane experience is a significant advantage., • Forklift operating experience, including sit-down forklifts, is highly beneficial., • Experience with pallet jacks and other material handling equipment is helpful., • High school diploma or GED is preferred., • Production or manufacturing environments is a plus., • Experience with order picking, packing, loading, unloading, and packaging processes is beneficial., • Familiarity with basic inventory practices and spot-checking procedures is advantageous. Work Environment This role is based in a production and manufacturing plant environment with a full-time schedule, Monday through Friday on first shift from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You will work primarily in a warehouse and shop setting that involves exposure to varying temperatures, including conditions above 100°ree;F and below 32°ree;F. The position requires frequent standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing on and off truck trailers. You will regularly operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, yard trucks, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes, and you will use basic computer systems and software applications to complete documentation and track work. The facility emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, and expects employees to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area while following all safety and quality standards Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
