About Loveland Living Planet Aquarium: Loveland Living Planet Aquarium (LLPA) is a mission-driven institution dedicated to inspiring people to explore, discover, and learn about Earth’s diverse ecosystems. Founded in 1997, the Aquarium provides impactful educational experiences for guests of all ages and backgrounds. Since opening its Draper, Utah facility in 2014, LLPA has welcomed more than 10 million visitors and delivered over 650,000 educational experiences to students. Home to over 4,000 animals representing 650 species, the Aquarium features immersive habitats from around the world, including coral reefs, kelp forests, the deep ocean, Antarctic waters, tropical rainforests, Asian cloud forests, and Utah’s freshwater ecosystems. Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) since 2019, LLPA is in an exciting phase of growth. With the opening of the Sam and Aline Skaggs Science Learning Center, the Aquarium became the largest in the Mountain West and the fifth largest aquarium in the continental United States, offering expanded opportunities for education, research, and professional impact. Position Summary The Graphic & Motion Designer creates engaging visual content that supports the mission, brand, marketing initiatives, exhibits, educational programs, events, and guest experience of Loveland Living Planet Aquarium. This position emphasizes motion graphics, animation, and video editing while also producing traditional graphic design for print and digital applications. The ideal candidate has strong design fundamentals, motion-design experience, and the ability to manage projects from concept through final delivery. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Motion Graphics & Video • Design and produce motion graphics, animation, and video content for digital displays, social media, advertising, websites, presentations, events, exhibits, and other Aquarium initiatives., • Create animated typography, logo animations, transitions, graphic overlays, title sequences, infographics, and visual effects using Adobe After Effects., • Edit video in Adobe Premiere Pro, including pacing, transitions, audio adjustments, color correction, captions, and final export., • Develop storyboards, style frames, visual concepts, and animation plans., • Combine footage, graphics, photography, sound, and messaging into cohesive final products., • Prepare and optimize content for horizontal, vertical, square, widescreen, and custom digital-display formats., • Export content using appropriate resolutions, frame rates, codecs, file formats, and compression settings. Graphic Design • Design print and digital materials, including advertisements, signs, brochures, event collateral, educational materials, exhibit graphics, presentations, social media graphics, and internal communications., • Develop concepts that clearly communicate the intended message and support organizational objectives., • Create illustrations, icons, logos, infographics, layouts, and other visual assets using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop., • Apply typography, imagery, color, composition, and visual hierarchy effectively across projects., • Adapt designs for multiple sizes, platforms, and applications while maintaining brand consistency., • Prepare accurate, production-ready files for internal production, outside vendors, digital platforms, and publishing systems., • Review designs, animations, videos, and production files for accuracy, quality, and technical errors before submission or publication. Collaboration and Project Management • Collaborate with the Art & Design Manager, Creative team, Marketing team, and internal stakeholders to define project goals, audiences, messaging, requirements, and deadlines., • Participate in brainstorming, concept development, project reviews, and production planning., • Present concepts, receive feedback, and incorporate requested revisions., • Manage multiple projects at different stages of development while meeting established deadlines., • Communicate project status, questions, challenges, and potential delays proactively., • Document project updates, review requests, feedback, and approvals in Jira., • Maintain organized project files and follow department standards for naming, version control, storage, archiving, and final delivery., • Assist with other creative projects and responsibilities as assigned. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, motion design, animation, visual communications, multimedia design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience., • Two or more years of professional design experience with demonstrated work in both graphic design and motion graphics., • Portfolio and motion reel demonstrating motion-design abilities and strong still graphic-design work., • Proficiency in Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop., • Strong understanding of typography, hierarchy, composition, color, alignment, animation, pacing, and visual storytelling., • Experience preparing graphics and video for different platforms, aspect ratios, resolutions, and file specifications., • Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and project-management skills., • Ability to receive art direction, respond constructively to feedback, and produce polished work., • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with additional animation, compositing, 3D, sound-editing, color-grading, or motion-tracking software and techniques., • Experience creating content for digital signage, exhibits, large-format displays, or other guest-facing environments., • Experience with illustration, photography, videography, or storyboarding., • Familiarity with accessibility practices, established brand standards, and project-management software such as Jira., • Experience in an aquarium, zoo, museum, attraction, cultural organization, or nonprofit environment. Scope and Working Conditions • This position primarily works in an office and creative-production environment but may also work in exhibit areas, event spaces, installation areas, and outdoor locations., • Periodic evening, weekend, or early-morning work may be required for events, filming, installations, or production deadlines., • The position may assist with the installation, testing, or review of digital and printed creative materials., • The role requires extended computer use, movement throughout the Aquarium, and the occasional lifting or repositioning of creative materials and equipment., • The work environment may include moderate noise, changing temperatures, weather conditions, animals, guests, events, and operational workspaces., • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform the essential functions of the position.
