Job DescriptionJob Title: HVAC Technician / Building EngineerJob Description This role serves as a Building Engineer with a strong focus on industrial HVAC systems, supporting the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all building systems within an industrial facility. The HVAC Technician oversees, maintains, and optimizes heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related mechanical systems, ensuring high performance, energy efficiency, and minimal downtime across the plant. Responsibilities • Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of building systems with a primary emphasis on industrial HVAC equipment., • Service, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of HVAC systems, including boilers, chillers, and refrigeration equipment., • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related mechanical systems to extend equipment life and reduce breakdowns., • Monitor building automation systems and HVAC controls, making adjustments to optimize performance, comfort, and energy efficiency., • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues affecting HVAC and associated building systems., • Coordinate and support third-party vendors and contractors performing specialized repairs, installations, or upgrades., • Conduct routine inspections of facilities, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and plant areas to ensure compliance with safety, operational, and performance standards., • Maintain accurate logs and documentation of maintenance activities, system performance, inspections, and repairs., • Respond promptly to service requests, equipment alarms, and emergency situations, including participation in on-call support as needed., • Assist with general building maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical, and structural repairs as required., • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing system reliability, improving energy efficiency, and reducing downtime., • Manage HVAC operations and building systems across multiple areas of the plant, including the warehouse at the back of the facility., • Lift, move, and handle tools, parts, and equipment safely while working in various conditions, including heights, confined spaces, and indoor/outdoor environments.Essential Skills, • Proven experience as an HVAC Technician in an industrial and/or commercial environment, with hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial HVAC systems., • 3–5 years of commercial HVAC experience, including preventative maintenance and diagnostics., • EPA certification for handling refrigerants., • Strong foundation in HVAC and mechanical systems, including boilers, ventilation, and refrigeration., • Working knowledge of building automation systems and HVAC controls., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents., • Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced problem-solving skills for complex HVAC and building system issues., • Ability to operate and understand various control systems, including those related to fire alarms and fire and life safety., • Understanding of the principles involved in refrigeration, electrical equipment, and cooling tower operations., • Comprehension of engineering design processes and safety training practices., • Valid driver’s license., • Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities across multiple sites., • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work safely at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience as a boiler technician, chiller technician, refrigeration technician, or industrial HVAC/R technician., • Experience with commercial HVAC/R systems and customer-facing service work., • Proficiency in project management related to maintenance, upgrades, and energy management initiatives., • Knowledge of plumbing systems as they relate to HVAC equipment and building operations., • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with internal teams, contractors, and facility personnel., • Detail-oriented approach to documentation, recordkeeping, and compliance with safety and operational standards.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based at an industrial plant where you will manage HVAC and building systems across the entire facility, including the main plant and the warehouse at the back of the building. The work environment includes mechanical rooms, rooftops, and various indoor and outdoor areas. The facility is generally climate-controlled, although temperatures can become warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter when bay doors are open. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the possibility of 4–8 hours of overtime per week. Work may involve heights, confined spaces, and exposure to typical industrial plant conditions, with a focus on safe work practices and proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective gear.
