Job Description Job Title: Shipping and Receiving Specialist – Cable Handling Job Description This role focuses on accurately cutting, inspecting, and preparing cable for both customer shipments and internal production, while maintaining high quality standards and precise inventory traceability in a fast-paced warehouse environment. Responsibilities • Remove cable from stock based on order cut schedules, production work orders, and written instructions., • Visually inspect cable for damage, defects, correct length, and accuracy, ensuring item labels match the printed legend and promptly advising a supervisor of any discrepancies., • Spool and cut finished cables to the specified lengths according to customer requests and production work order requirements., • Follow all special instructions for cable preparation, including exposing cable ends, striping cable, and preparing and securing cable for shipment in line with company policies and procedures., • Complete all required quality checklists for outgoing shipments and production orders to ensure accuracy and compliance., • Place finished products in the designated customer pickup area or outgoing shipment area to maintain an organized workflow., • Ensure prepared cable spools are sent to the correct assembly area as indicated on work orders., • Scan reels, picking tickets, and production work orders into the company’s operational software (SAP) to maintain product and order traceability., • Assist with regular cycle counts and physical inventory stock takes to support accurate inventory control., • Wash print legends from cables as needed to meet order requirements., • Print cable legends onto cables as required for customer and production specifications., • Support general shipping and receiving tasks, including packing, loading, and unloading materials as needed., • Use basic computer applications to access work orders, record data, and complete documentation related to shipping, receiving, and inventory. Essential Skills • At least 3 years of experience in a warehouse environment, shipping and receiving, or order pulling., • Proficiency using computers to enter and retrieve information related to orders, inventory, and shipping documentation., • Ability to work effectively in a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment., • Experience performing cycle counts or inventory checks., • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis., • High school diploma or GED., • Strong attention to detail when measuring, cutting, and inspecting cable., • Ability to follow written instructions, work orders, and special instructions accurately., • Comfort using basic office software such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office., • Reliable attendance and flexibility to arrive early or stay late as workload requires., • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work closely and cooperatively with a small group. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Previous experience in shipping and receiving operations, including packing, loading, and unloading materials., • Experience in general labor or production work within a warehouse setting., • Familiarity with SAP or similar operational and inventory management software., • Experience handling cable, wire, or similar materials in an assembly or production environment., • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple orders and maintain clear work areas., • Effective communication skills to coordinate with supervisors and team members., • Comfort working in a small, tight-knit team within a larger corporate structure. Work Environment The role is based in a large warehouse assembly area with long benches designed to hold and process cable. The facility is not climate controlled, so temperatures will vary with the seasons. You will work closely with a team of about five people in a collaborative, tight-knit setting that combines a small-company feel with the backing of a larger corporate owner. This is a first-shift position, typically running from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with frequent opportunities and expectations to stay later, often until 6:00 or 7:00 p.m., and to work additional hours and some weekends as needed. The environment is hands-on, physically active, and centered around shipping, receiving, production support, and inventory tasks, with regular use of SAP and basic Microsoft Office applications. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
