Job DescriptionJob Title: Corporate Quality Engineer – AutomotiveJob Description The Corporate Quality Engineer – Automotive is responsible for partnering with OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to resolve quality issues during product development and throughout the full program lifecycle. This role focuses on automotive electronic components, including integrated center stack displays, instrument cluster displays, and HVAC switches, ensuring products meet stringent quality standards and customer expectations. Responsibilities • Collaborate with OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to identify, investigate, and resolve quality issues during product development and over the entire program lifetime., • Support quality activities for integrated center stack displays, instrument cluster displays, HVAC switches, and other automotive electronic cockpit and infotainment components., • Establish and manage containment activities at customer locations to minimize the impact of defects and quality concerns., • Perform product testing in the field to assess performance, reliability, and durability, and conduct analysis to minimize defects and failure rates., • Conduct defect analysis using basic lab diagnostics equipment, collect data logs (QNX experience is a plus), and compile clear reports on root cause analysis., • Actively participate in issue analysis, root cause identification, technical solution implementation, and lessons learned reporting, including 5 WHYs analysis and 8D problem-solving., • Carry out hands-on technical work such as software debugging, soldering, ECU flashing, firmware updates in vehicles, and components removal and installation., • Leverage experience with GM manufacturing methods and processes, including production flow, layout, assembly, and equipment, to improve product quality and production efficiency., • Use GM’s supplier portal to support quality-related activities and maintain accurate documentation and communication with customer teams., • Support and lead global meetings virtually to coordinate quality actions, share status updates, and align stakeholders on corrective and preventive measures., • Prepare and maintain detailed quality documentation, reports, and metrics to track issues, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives., • Travel within the USA and Mexico (approximately 15–20%) on short notice when needed to support quality issues related to GM business and other customer programs.Essential Skills, • Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or Mechanical Engineering., • 5+ years of related experience in quality within the automotive industry, including experience with APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning)., • Experience or strong foundational knowledge of center stack displays, HVAC switches, and instrument cluster displays as commodities., • Background working with automotive electronic components as a minimum requirement., • Basic knowledge of how to establish and manage containment activities at customer locations., • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing methods and processes, including production flow, layout, assembly operations, and production equipment, gained from experience as a GM supplier or working directly with GM., • Experience working with GM’s supplier portal to manage quality and manufacturing-related activities., • Proficiency in Microsoft products (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation, reporting, and analysis., • Familiarity with basic lab diagnostics equipment used for defect analysis and product testing., • Ability to collect and interpret data logs; experience with QNX operating systems is a plus., • Ability to compile clear and concise reports on root cause analysis and corrective actions., • Hands-on capability in software debugging, soldering, ECU flashing, in-vehicle firmware updates, and removal/installation of electronic components., • Demonstrated experience supporting issue analysis, root cause identification, technical solution implementation, and lessons learned activities using methods such as 5 WHYs and 8D., • Ability and willingness to travel within the USA and Mexico approximately 15–20%, including on short notice, to support customer quality issues., • Ability to effectively support and participate in global meetings virtually.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with BarTender barcode software for creating, automating, and managing labels, packing slips, barcodes, RFID tags, and related items., • Experience in automotive infotainment, HMI (Human-Machine Interface), and cockpit display systems., • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to quality improvement., • Effective communication skills for interacting with OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, manufacturing teams, and global stakeholders., • Ability to work independently while actively supporting cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.Work Environment This position is based in an office environment with approximately 15–20% travel to manufacturing plants to support quality issues and on-site customer activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troy, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
