Job DescriptionJob Title: Material HandlerJob Description The Material Handler plays a key role in keeping production running smoothly by loading raw materials onto the production floor, moving materials throughout the plant, and assisting with loading trucks with finished goods. This position operates forklifts and cranes to support producing, finishing, packaging, and shipping parts, while performing inspections and paperwork to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations. Responsibilities • Load the production floor with raw materials to support daily manufacturing operations., • Move materials throughout the plant using a sit-down propane forklift and overhead crane for producing, finishing, packaging, and shipping parts., • Assist with loading trucks with finished goods to ensure timely and accurate shipments., • Perform miscellaneous tasks throughout the plant to support safe, efficient, and quality production., • Observe machine processing to verify proper functioning and consistent production of parts., • Conduct visual and manual inspections of parts as needed, checking for defects, dents, straight lines, and clean parts., • Complete required paperwork accurately and on time to support inventory, shipping, and production documentation., • Assist machine operators with set-ups and running production, working closely as part of a small team., • Handle material loading, unloading, shipping, and inventory tasks in a fast-paced warehouse environment., • Maintain a high level of awareness of safety procedures, especially when operating forklifts, cranes, and working around coiled steel.Essential Skills, • Minimum 2 years of experience operating a sit-down propane forklift., • Hands-on crane experience, preferably in an industrial or steel environment., • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with constant movement around the warehouse., • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basis., • Recent visual inspection experience, including checking parts for defects, dents, straight lines, and cleanliness., • Experience with material handling, including loading, unloading, inventory, and shipping tasks., • Ability to work effectively in small teams and support machine operators with set-ups and production runs.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working in a steel environment is strongly preferred., • Experience working with coiled steel is a plus., • Crane certification is a plus., • Roll forming experience is preferred., • Comfort working in a smaller, hands-on production setting.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a smaller, family-style production facility with a tight-knit team environment. You work on smaller lines of 3–4 people, collaborating closely with coworkers throughout your shift. The plant uses fans in the summer to keep air moving and provide a breeze. The work is active and fast-paced, with frequent movement around the warehouse and regular operation of sit-down propane forklifts and cranes, including work with steel materials and potentially coiled steel. Steel-toe footwear is required as part of the safety-focused dress code. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Warren, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
