You will apply advanced CAD/CAM expertise, multi‑axis machining knowledge and process driven engineering skills to help customers improve productivity, machining accuracy and overall manufacturing performance.This role sits at the heart of MSC’s technical value proposition. You will work closely with customers, suppliers and internal teams to deliver machining optimisation, robust programming support and engineering insight that enhances tool life, reduces cycle times and improves process reliability.The Manufacturing Engineering function is evolving to provide industry leading technical support, combining deep machining expertise with modern digital manufacturing tools. As part of this team, you will directly influence MSC’s ability to deliver best‑in‑class engineering solutions and strengthen our position as a trusted partner to UK manufacturers.What will you be doing?You will be responsible for delivering high-quality manufacturing engineering support across milling, turning and multi‑axis machining environments. You will apply your programming expertise, machine knowledge and process‑optimisation mindset to help customers achieve better accuracy, efficiency and repeatability.Deliver Machining & Programming ExcellenceDevelop, optimise and troubleshoot CNC programs for 3‑axis and 5‑axis milling, CNC turning and complex machining applications.Support customers with machine setup optimisation, toolpath refinement and machining strategy improvements.Apply strong understanding of feeds, speeds, tool engagement and cutting dynamics to improve tool life and cycle times.Provide hands-on engineering support across milling, turning and multi‑axis operations.Strengthen Technical CapabilityWork with advanced CAD/CAM platforms including Fusion 360, HyperMill and NX (knowledge of one or more of these or similar software).Support customers using modern machining technologies such as high efficiency milling, adaptive machining and multi‑axis toolpath strategies.Apply engineering judgement to solve machining challenges and improve process reliability.Enhance Customer ProductivityCollaborate with Applications, Technical and Sales teams to deliver machining optimisation projects and deliver cost saving targets.Provide application led guidance on tooling selection, machining strategies and process improvements.Help customers reduce downtime, improve repeatability and achieve measurable productivity gains.Additional ResponsibilitiesSupport machining projects involving multi‑tasking machines, sliding head lathes and complex component manufacturing.Contribute to technical content, machining guides and customer education initiatives.Evaluate emerging machining technologies, digital manufacturing tools and advanced CAM strategies.Partner with suppliers to understand new tooling innovations and translate them into added value.Promote safe systems of work when supporting machining, tooling, programming and optimisation activities.· Ensure all engineering recommendations consider machine safety, operator safety, ergonomics and regulatory compliance.· Identify and help mitigate risks associated with CNC machining, tooling applications, machine set-up and production processes.What do you need?Strong experience in CAD/CAM programming for CNC machining environments, ideally covering 3‑axis, 5‑axis and turning.Proven ability to set, operate and optimise milling machines, lathes and multi‑axis platforms.Experience with Fusion 360, HyperMill, NX or similar CAM systems (knowledge of one or more required).Deep understanding of machining fundamentals including toolpath strategies, cutting forces, tool holding, work holding, feeds/speeds and process optimisation.Ability to translate complex machining concepts into clear, practical guidance for customers and internal teams.Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose machining issues and implement effective solutions.Excellent collaboration skills and confidence acting as a technical subject matter expert.Experience working with suppliers, OEMs or engineering teams to deliver machining improvements.What do we value?We trust that our people will be able to teach you the role-specific skills, but for you to truly succeed at MSC you will embody our values and these significantly important attributes; ones that MSC believes embody talent within our business.Connections: Your interpersonal skills; how well you manage relationships, and how rewarding you are to deal withThinking: The abilities you draw upon to solve problems, learn and be agileCreativity: How adept you are at creating solutions and working with change.Drive: Your level of ambition.
