Job DescriptionAluminum Welder - Shipyard (USS Savannah Project)Portland, ORPay: Up to $35/hour Depending on Weld Test ResultsJob Overview We are seeking experienced Aluminum Welders to support shipbuilding and repair projects at a busy shipyard in Portland, OR. Candidates must have a strong background in aluminum welding and fabrication, be able to read and interpret blueprints, and successfully complete a weld test. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile maritime projects, including military vessels such as the USS Savannah. Key Responsibilities • Read and interpret ship specifications, work orders, blueprints, and fabrication drawings., • Fit, form, fabricate, and weld aluminum components on marine vessels., • Perform MIG welding on aluminum materials in various positions., • Use burning equipment and scarfing tips for beveling and material preparation., • Conduct carbon arc gouging for weld preparation and cleanup., • Perform SMAW and FCAW welding as required., • Maintain quality standards and meet X-ray inspection requirements.Required Qualifications, • Previous aluminum welding experience in a shipyard, fabrication, or industrial environment., • Proficiency with MIG welding., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings., • Ability to pass a weld test and X-ray inspection., • Experience welding in multiple positions.Weld Test Details To help candidates prepare, the weld test consists of: • Three 3/8" aluminum groove weld coupons welded in the 2G, 3G, and 4G positions., • Welding performed using MIG (GMAW) with 3/64" aluminum wire., • Testing will be conducted using Miller or Lincoln welding equipment., • Candidates will also complete 2G, 3G, and 4G fillet weld tests., • Welds must meet quality standards and successfully pass visual inspection and X-ray testing.Preferred Qualifications, • Pulse MIG welding experience., • TIG welding experience., • Flux-core welding experience., • Shipyard or marine industry experience.Why Join This Team?, • Work on major maritime and military vessel projects., • Opportunities for both local and traveling welders., • Day and swing shift openings available., • Consistent overtime with potential long-term work opportunities., • Join a skilled team supporting critical shipyard operations.Work Environment This position is based primarily outdoors on ships and occasionally in a fabrication shop. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
