Job DescriptionJob Title: Fitter WelderJob Description This role focuses on welding and fitting metal structural components to fabricate and repair steel electrical poles, substations, and other utility structures. You will interpret layouts, blueprints, and work orders to perform high-quality welds using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment. The position is ideal for a highly motivated welder who enjoys hands-on fabrication work in a production environment and takes pride in delivering precise, structurally sound welds. Responsibilities • Weld metal structural components together using arc welding processes to fabricate steel electrical poles, substations, and related structures., • Perform metalcore welding on utility poles, ensuring welds meet safety, load, and quality requirements., • Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, layouts, and written specifications to determine work requirements and sequence of operations., • Plan and lay out welding tasks with a limited amount of guidance, ensuring accurate fit-up and alignment of components., • Perform welding operations primarily in a single position, including fillet welds in a 2G position using metal core wire., • Use MIG, flux core, and metalcore welding processes to complete structural steel fabrication and repair work., • Carry out basic TIG welding and general fabrication tasks as needed to support production requirements., • Move pole shafts and structural components safely using an overhead crane, following proper material handling procedures., • Gather and organize parts, materials, and hardware required to complete assigned projects efficiently., • Follow established safety procedures and quality standards throughout all welding and fabrication activities., • Complete required assessments, including math, weld symbol, and weld performance tests, and apply results to daily work., • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, ensuring tools, equipment, and materials are stored and used properly.Essential Skills, • Proficiency in MIG welding, including structural and production applications., • Hands-on experience with flux core and metalcore welding processes, particularly on structural steel and utility poles., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, layouts, and written work orders., • Skill in fitting structural components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and tolerances., • Capability to perform fillet welds using metal core wire in a 2G position to required quality standards., • Experience with structural steel fabrication and welding in a manufacturing or industrial environment., • Basic TIG welding skills to support a range of fabrication tasks., • Ability to perform welding operations that involve moderate safety and load requirements in a single position., • Competence in using an overhead crane to move pole shafts and heavy structural components safely., • Strong basic math skills to support measurements, layout, and fit-up work., • Ability to successfully complete math, weld symbol, and weld performance assessments., • Attention to detail and commitment to producing consistent, high-quality welds.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working as a structural welder or fitter/welder on day shift in a production environment., • Background in fabrication of steel electrical poles, substations, or similar utility structures., • Familiarity with brazing and gas welding equipment in addition to arc welding processes., • Comfort working from blueprints and written specifications with limited supervision., • Strong organizational skills for gathering and staging parts and materials for projects., • Demonstrated ability to follow safety protocols in a manufacturing and material-handling setting., • Willingness to complete and pass pre-employment assessments, including math, weld symbol, and weld tests.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing facility focused on producing steel electrical poles, substations, and related utility structures. You will work primarily on a four-day day shift, Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with frequent overtime extending the day to approximately 4:30 p.m., so flexibility for extended hours is important. The work is hands-on and physically active, involving welding, fitting, and moving large pole shafts and structural components with an overhead crane. You will regularly use MIG, flux core, metalcore, TIG, brazing, and gas welding equipment, as well as standard fabrication tools. The environment is typical of a structural steel manufacturing operation, with an emphasis on safety procedures, proper use of protective equipment, and adherence to quality standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tulsa, OK. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.24 - $29.35/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
