Job DescriptionJob Title: CNC OperatorJob Description This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC machines in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment, interpreting blueprints, and applying G & M code fundamentals to produce high-quality parts. You will work with a variety of CNC equipment, including horizontal and vertical machines and multi-axis systems, while contributing to continuous improvement and growing into a more advanced machinist role. Responsibilities • Set up CNC machines for production, including loading fixtures and parts, and ensuring correct alignment and secure mounting., • Interpret and read blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining processes required for each part., • Use G & M code fundamentals to pull programs, verify correctness, and make basic edits as needed to ensure proper machine operation., • Locate fixtures using documentation and books, and accurately set up parts into machines based on specified locations and references., • Operate CNC lathes, mills, and other CNC equipment, including horizontal, vertical, and boring machines, to machine parts from materials such as grey iron, steel, and carbon steel., • Work with 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machines, including Mori Seiki and similar equipment, to produce complex components., • Monitor machine operations and make adjustments to feeds, speeds, offsets, and tooling to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy., • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to inspect parts and verify that they meet blueprint specifications and tolerances., • Handle and move materials and components safely using overhead cranes and other material-handling equipment as needed., • Maintain a clean, organized machine shop work area and follow safety procedures and best practices at all times., • Collaborate with team members and leadership to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives., • Demonstrate willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities to grow into a more advanced machinist role over time.Essential Skills, • Proven experience as a CNC operator with the ability to set up CNC machines for production., • Ability to interpret and read blueprints, including understanding dimensions, tolerances, and machining symbols., • Working knowledge of G & M code fundamentals and the ability to pull programs and run them on CNC machines., • Hands-on experience operating CNC lathes and mills in a machine shop environment., • Experience with horizontal and vertical CNC machines, including horizontal boring operations., • Familiarity with 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machines and their basic operation., • Experience working with materials such as grey iron, steel, and carbon steel in machining applications., • Proficiency using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to inspect parts., • Ability to use overhead cranes safely for moving parts and fixtures., • Experience with Fanuc and Haas CNC controls or similar control systems., • Ability to work with Mori Seiki machines or comparable CNC equipment., • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts., • Willingness and ability to work assigned shifts and additional hours as needed.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Desire to learn and grow into a more advanced machinist role, including increased responsibility for setups and programming., • Experience working in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment., • Comfort working with multi-axis machines, including 4-axis and 5-axis configurations., • Familiarity with both horizontal and vertical machining centers and their setup requirements., • Ability to follow documented procedures and setup instructions to locate fixtures and set up parts., • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adjust processes to maintain quality and efficiency., • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented machine shop.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing facility with a dedicated machine shop environment. You will work with CNC lathes, mills, horizontal and vertical machining centers, horizontal boring machines, and 4-axis and 5-axis equipment, including Mori Seiki machines. The controls and systems in use include Fanuc and Haas, along with overhead cranes for material handling. The role operates on multiple shifts: a first shift typically running from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday work as needed, and a second shift generally from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with Friday work as needed. The environment emphasizes safety, precision, and consistent production quality, with expectations for professional conduct and appropriate attire suitable for a machine shop setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chattanooga, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
