Job Description The Role As a Swim Instructor, you’ll guide students through every stage of learning, while also helping to develop and grow the program. While teaching, your primary role will be to oversee and maintain a safe learning environment for all Hudson Valley Swim learners. Schedule & Availability • Weekdays: A minimum of 1 weekday shift is required - approximately 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Monday - Friday, • Weekends: A minimum of 1 weekend shift is required – Saturday or Sunday approximately 9am-1pm, • Hours may expand as classes grow Responsibilities • Become an expert on the Hudson Valley Swim songs, curriculum and skill levels using the curriculum binder and iSpring platform, • Plan and implement safe instructional lessons based on the Hudson Valley Swim curriculum and skill levels, • Oversee Trial Lessons to recommend appropriate student placement, • Teach swim lessons to students of all ages and skill levels (starting at 4 months through adults); this includes but is not limited to swimmers with special needs, • Provide a safe, structured, and encouraging environment for students and families (this includes enforcing safe pool deck practices - no running, no diving, etc.), • Track student progress through iClass and communicate effectively with parents/guardians on/off the pool deck, • Maintain high instructional standards to support program growth, • Mentor and train future instructors as the program expands, • Light Administrative support (scheduling lessons, rescheduling lessons, student progress documentation, trial lessons, email correspondence), • Clock in and out of each shift using our online system, • Clock in no more than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled shift and no more than 15 minutes past your scheduled shift unless administrative approval has been given, • Notify a pool manager and HVS Administrator (Owner or Lead Instructor) prior to allowing Hudson Valley Swimmers access to the pool when an anomaly is observed in the pool area, • Notify parents and post signs when classes must be cancelled for any reason, • Notify an administrator (Owner or Lead Instructor) as soon as possible when a class will be missed and will need coverage Additional Optional Opportunities May Include: • Administrative support (location scheduling, light sales/booking, etc.), • Community marketing (attending local events to represent Hudson Valley Swim) Qualifications • Clean fingerprinting, background check, and sexual predator registry clearance, • Minimum 3 years of swim instruction experience or a minimum of 10 year history of competitive swim experience, • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to connect with students, parents, and teammates while remaining dependable and professional, • Availability for weekday evenings and at least 1 weekend day shifts, • Ability to complete a training program including instructor shadowing and lesson preparation Preferred • Lifeguard / CPR / First Aid certification, • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred), • Experience teaching infants, young children, adults, and special needs swimmers\nCompany Description Hudson Valley Swim’s Mission is to “make a positive impact on the communities we serve by delivering a best-in-class swim lesson program that builds self-confidence, promotes enjoyment, and reduces incidents of drowning.” Hudson Valley Swim’s Mission is to “make a positive impact on the communities we serve by delivering a best-in-class swim lesson program that builds self-confidence, promotes enjoyment, and reduces incidents of drowning.”
