Role - Head Miller \n Location: Harlow (Multi-Site) \n Salary: £50K to £58 DOE+ Benefits \n Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent \n Hours: 9am to 5pm (there will be some shift work when cover is required) \n \n Lead Milling Operations Across Two High-Performing Production Sites \n \n I am seeking an experienced Head Miller to take ownership of flour milling operations across two production facilities. This is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for delivering consistent product quality, operational efficiency, food safety compliance, and team performance. \n The successful candidate will be a highly skilled milling professional with strong technical expertise, proven leadership experience, and the ability to step into operational milling duties whenever required. \n \n Key Responsibilities \n Milling Operations & Production Performance \n\n • Lead and coordinate milling operations across multiple sites.\n, • Deliver target extraction rates while maintaining product quality and customer specifications.\n, • Monitor production KPIs including efficiency, OEE, throughput and downtime.\n, • Ensure consistency and continuity of operations across both facilities.\n\n \n Operational Support \n\n • Provide direct operational cover when required, running the mill during shift absences.\n, • Support teams in troubleshooting production issues and minimising operational disruption.\n, • Maintain high standards of performance and operational excellence.\n\n \n Health, Safety & Compliance \n\n • Champion a strong health and safety culture across both sites.\n, • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and company procedures.\n, • Conduct risk assessments and implement safe systems of work.\n, • Investigate incidents and lead corrective action plans.\n\n \n Food Safety & Quality \n\n • Ensure full compliance with HACCP, BRC and food safety standards.\n, • Take ownership of site hygiene standards, cleaning schedules and audit readiness.\n, • Work closely with Quality teams to address non-conformances and maintain accreditation standards.\n, • Drive continuous improvements in product quality and process control.\n\n \n Inventory & Resource Management \n\n • Manage raw materials, consumables, and production-related stock.\n, • Work closely with warehouse and supply chain teams to ensure material availability.\n, • Conduct wheat reconciliation activities and maintain stock accuracy.\n, • Support cost-effective inventory control and waste reduction initiatives.\n\n \n Leadership & Team Development \n\n • Lead, motivate and develop a team of millers and shift operators.\n, • Manage recruitment, induction, training, and performance management activities.\n, • Deliver structured development programmes aligned to recognised milling qualifications.\n, • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.\n\n \n Engineering & Continuous Improvement \n\n • Partner with Engineering teams to coordinate preventative maintenance activities.\n, • Support fault diagnosis and equipment improvements.\n, • Contribute to capital projects and machinery commissioning activities.\n, • Drive initiatives to improve efficiency, extraction rates and overall operational performance.\n\n \n About You \n \n You'll be an experienced milling professional with a passion for operational excellence and team leadership. \n Essential Experience & Skills \n\n • Extensive flour milling experience.\n, • Previous experience leading and developing production teams.\n, • Strong technical understanding of mill flows extraction optimisation and flour functionality.\n, • Formal milling qualifications and industry-recognised training.\n, • Working knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations.\n, • Excellent communication and leadership skills.\n, • Proven problem-solving and decision-making abilities.\n, • Ability to manage operations across multiple sites.\n, • Strong planning, organisational and IT skills.\n, • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and using your own initiative.\n, • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.\n\n \n Desirable \n\n • Understanding of UK employment legislation and workplace best practice.\n\n \n What's on Offer? \n\n • Opportunity to lead operations across multiple sites.\n, • Significant influence over production performance and continuous improvement initiatives.\n, • Career development within a well-established manufacturing environment.\n, • Supportive leadership team and ongoing professional development opportunities.\n\n \n If you're an experienced milling professional looking for a leadership role where you can make a genuine impact on operational performance, quality, and team development, I would love to hear from you. \n \n Please contact claire.talty-huelin@tate.co.uk
