Job Description CAD Engineer – Modular / Prefabricated Construction Location: Remote – California Residents Only Compensation: $120,000+ annually, depending on qualifications and experience Schedule: Full-Time Employment Type: Direct Hire Work Arrangement: Remote with occasional travel to the Bakersfield/Tejon Ranch area, approximately once per quarter Position Summary Key Staffing is recruiting for an experienced CAD Engineer – Modular / Prefabricated Construction for a growing building technology manufacturer specializing in advanced prefabricated and modular construction. This is a direct-hire opportunity for a technically skilled professional who can bridge the gap between building design, CAD modeling, and manufacturing. The CAD Engineer will translate architectural and engineering information into production-ready documentation and data used to manufacture and assemble building components. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with 3D modeling, modular or panelized construction, shop drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and design for manufacturing. This individual should understand not only how to create accurate building designs, but also how those designs translate into efficient fabrication and assembly. This position is fully remote for California residents, with occasional travel to a manufacturing facility in the Bakersfield area. Essential Duties & Responsibilities CAD, Modeling & Virtual Fabrication • Develop detailed 3D models of building structures, systems, and components for manufacturing., • Convert architectural, structural, and engineering information from Revit, PDF, and other design formats into production-ready CAD/CAM information., • Create detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, coordination plans, and construction documentation., • Translate building designs into information that can be effectively used by manufacturing and production teams., • Develop and maintain virtual fabrication processes to identify potential design, fabrication, or assembly issues before production., • Modify designs based on manufacturing, fabrication, installation, or field conditions., • Maintain accurate CAD standards, documentation, and standard operating procedures. Manufacturing & Production Support • Create accurate and executable Bills of Materials (BOMs) for material ordering, project costing, and production., • Develop material takeoffs, cut lists, and other documentation used to optimize material utilization., • Prepare CAD/CAM and machine-ready information to support automated fabrication processes., • Ensure drawings and production information accurately reflect design intent and manufacturing requirements., • Support quality-control and testing processes for manufactured building components., • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, accuracy, quality, and material utilization. Engineering & Cross-Functional Collaboration • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, production, project management, suppliers, contractors, and other internal stakeholders., • Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other engineering documentation., • Coordinate design changes and resolve technical issues affecting fabrication or assembly., • Participate in research and development initiatives related to building systems, manufacturing processes, and new technology., • Communicate technical information clearly to both engineering and manufacturing teams., • Support continuous improvement of CAD, virtual-build, and production processes. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered., • Minimum 4 years of building design experience., • Minimum 3 years of 3D modeling experience, preferably involving residential or commercial building structures., • Experience creating shop drawings, fabrication drawings, coordination plans, and/or installation documentation., • Experience developing Bills of Materials, material takeoffs, and/or cut lists., • Experience with modular, panelized, prefabricated, or off-site construction., • Strong understanding of how architectural and engineering designs translate into manufacturing and fabrication., • Ability to interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection documentation., • Knowledge of light-frame building systems and general construction practices., • Experience working with CAD/CAM systems and manufacturing or fabrication processes., • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills., • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business technology., • Must reside in California and be able to travel occasionally to the Bakersfield area. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with CadWork or similar advanced 3D building-design software., • Experience with Revit and other architectural or structural modeling platforms., • Experience generating data or files used by automated fabrication equipment., • Experience with manufacturing facility layout, automation, and production workflow., • Experience with heavy timber or mass timber construction., • Experience working within a high-volume prefabricated or modular building manufacturing environment., • Knowledge of design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles.
