Job Description Welder Job Description This role focuses on joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable materials using appropriate welding techniques. You interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and schematics to determine the correct welding process, prepare materials and equipment for welding, and inspect completed welds to ensure structural soundness and high-quality results. The position may involve completing an apprenticeship or formal training in specialized welding areas as required. Responsibilities • Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials using MIG welding techniques, primarily on steel., • Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and shop drawings to determine appropriate welding processes and fabrication requirements., • Inspect completed welds to verify structural soundness, quality, and adherence to specifications., • Prepare materials for welding by cutting, fitting, grinding, and setting up jobs according to blueprints and shop drawings., • Set up and operate welding equipment and, when required, robotic or processing machines to complete assigned work., • Fabricate structures and components, ensuring proper alignment, fit, and finish., • Use hand tools such as hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grinders, and banders to support welding and fabrication tasks., • Use measuring tools including tape measures, box calipers, slide dial calipers, and micrometers to verify dimensions and tolerances., • Convert fractions to decimals and metric measurements to English units as needed for fabrication and quality checks., • Operate forklifts and cranes safely and maintain required equipment certifications., • Maintain MIG welder certification and follow established welding procedures and safety standards., • Produce high-quality work that meets or exceeds company and customer standards., • Communicate effectively in conversational English, both verbally and in writing, to understand instructions and document work as needed. Essential Skills • Proficiency in MIG welding, specifically MIG welding on steel., • Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints and shop drawings., • Experience in fabrication, including setting up jobs, fitting, and structural work., • Skill in grinding and other preparation techniques to support welding and fabrication., • Ability to inspect welds for structural soundness and quality., • Basic critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail., • Ability to operate forklifts and cranes and maintain required equipment certifications., • Proficiency in using hand tools such as hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grinders, and banders., • Ability to use measuring tools including tape measures, box calipers, slide dial calipers, and micrometers., • Ability to convert fractions to decimals and metric measurements to English units., • Capability to set up and operate one or more processing machines., • Ability to speak, write, and comprehend conversational English., • Ability to produce consistently high-quality work., • High School Diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Relevant experience in welding, fabrication, or steel manufacturing., • Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in welding or related specialty areas is preferred., • Ability to pass and maintain MIG welder certification., • Comfort working in a steel manufacturing and fabrication environment. Work Environment The role is based in a steel manufacturing and fabrication environment that is not temperature controlled, so conditions vary with the seasons. This is a first-shift position, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch and two 10-minute breaks. When overtime is required, it is typically scheduled on Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You work around welding equipment, processing machines, forklifts, cranes, and standard fabrication tools in an industrial setting that prioritizes safety and productivity. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Louisville, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
