Job DescriptionJob Title: 1st Class Marine ElectricianJob Description This role supports ship repair projects across the Hampton Roads, VA area by performing electrical disconnects and reconnects and by installing, troubleshooting, and repairing shipboard electrical systems. You will work in a fast-paced shipyard environment, ensuring safe, high-quality workmanship while collaborating with other trades to keep projects on schedule. Responsibilities • Perform electrical disconnects and reconnects on shipboard equipment and systems in accordance with project requirements., • Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair shipboard electrical systems, including wiring and conduit, to ensure reliable operation., • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and work packages to plan and execute tasks accurately., • Complete all work in accordance with shipyard and customer specifications, standards, and procedures., • Follow all safety procedures and quality standards while working aboard vessels and in shipyard environments., • Collaborate with supervisors, other tradespeople, and team members to complete projects on schedule and to the required quality., • Document work performed as required by shipyard processes and communicate progress or issues to the appropriate personnel.Essential Skills, • Proven experience as a 1st Class Marine Electrician in ship repair environments., • Hands-on experience working in ship repair facilities and aboard vessels., • Strong knowledge of shipboard electrical systems, including installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair., • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and work packages., • Ability to work safely and effectively aboard ships and in various shipyard conditions., • Reliable work history with consistent attendance and punctuality., • Ability to obtain access to and work in all local shipyards in the Hampton Roads, VA area., • Proficiency with marine electrical tasks involving conduit and wiring.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working in multiple shipyards within a regional area., • Strong communication and teamwork skills for coordinating with supervisors and other trades., • Commitment to high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards., • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage changing priorities.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in the Hampton Roads, VA area and involves working across all local shipyards and yards. The work is hands-on and physically active, involving regular use of electrical tools and equipment and adherence to strict safety procedures and shipyard rules. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
