Job Description Job Title: Drywall Carpenter Job Description This role involves performing a full range of carpentry tasks on restoration projects for buildings that have experienced water, fire, or other types of damage. You will work on residential, commercial, multi-family, industrial, and institutional properties, including high-risk or complex projects. The position requires hands-on carpentry, supervision of less experienced workers, and participation in emergency services such as board-ups and securing structures against further damage. You will work a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., typically driving to the jobsite each day unless otherwise directed. Responsibilities • Perform a wide range of carpentry tasks, including both rough and finish carpentry, to restore damaged buildings., • Drive to the assigned jobsite daily and arrive prepared to work the scheduled 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. shift, Monday through Friday, unless otherwise directed., • Restore structures affected by water, fire, or other damage in residential, commercial, multi-family, industrial, and institutional settings., • Supervise unskilled laborers, basic and intermediate level employees, and occasional subcontractors, ensuring work quality and adherence to project plans., • Answer straightforward questions about the project and escalate more complex questions to appropriately qualified personnel., • Use appropriate tools and accepted methods to perform tasks such as flood cutting and salvaging, labeling, and handling baseboards, cabinets, doors, and other building components., • Identify and handle different types of insulation, including recognizing their thickness and respective R-values, and apply this knowledge in daily tasks., • Apply knowledge of trim, doors, cabinetry, insulation, rough carpentry, acoustical ceilings, roofing materials, and exterior siding to complete restoration work., • Construct and repair metal-framed walls and install or repair acoustical ceilings as required., • Repair and replace roofing components as needed to restore building integrity., • Perform daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections and keep the vehicle clean, organized, and in serviceable condition., • Maintain and care for tools and equipment used in daily tasks, ensuring they remain in good working order., • Perform emergency services as needed, including board-ups and securing buildings to prevent further damage., • Safeguard customer property at all times and meet established standards for protection of belongings and structures., • Read and interpret blueprints and project documentation to execute work accurately., • Perform demolition, removal, and installation tasks as required for new construction, repairs, or restoration., • Install doors, hardware, cabinetry, trim, and other interior and exterior finish components., • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete construction and carpentry tasks., • Measure materials accurately using tape measures and other measuring tools to ensure precise cuts and installations., • Assist with electrical, concrete, mechanical, and plumbing-related tasks as qualified and directed., • Maintain strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality workmanship and accurate completion of tasks., • Deliver courteous, professional customer service and communicate respectfully with clients and team members., • Perform additional duties as required to support project completion and team objectives. Essential Skills • Proven experience in construction and carpentry, including both rough and finish carpentry., • Ability to restore structures damaged by water, fire, or other events in a variety of building types., • Proficiency in constructing metal-framed walls and installing acoustical ceilings., • Experience repairing and replacing roofing components., • Ability to perform flood cutting and salvage work, including labeling and handling baseboards, cabinets, doors, and similar items., • Knowledge of different types of insulation, including thickness and R-values, and how to apply this knowledge in the field., • Skill in working with trim, doors, cabinetry, insulation, rough carpentry, acoustical ceilings, roofing materials, and exterior siding., • Capability to read and interpret blueprints and follow construction plans accurately., • Proficiency in using hand and power tools safely and effectively., • Experience with door installation, including hardware and finishing., • Ability to perform demolition, general labor, and new construction tasks as part of restoration projects., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship., • Comprehensive understanding of customer service principles and practices in a construction environment., • Ability to supervise unskilled laborers and less experienced employees, providing guidance and oversight., • Capability to perform daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections and keep vehicles in clean, serviceable condition., • Willingness and ability to perform emergency services such as board-ups and securing buildings against further damage. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in commercial construction environments., • Familiarity with electrical, concrete, mechanical, and plumbing work in a construction setting., • Experience with cabinetry installation and trim work in both residential and commercial projects., • Knowledge of wood framing and metal stud construction methods., • Comfort working with hardware installation and finishing tasks., • Ability to handle general labor tasks in addition to specialized carpentry work., • Strong communication skills to answer basic project questions and coordinate with supervisors and team members., • Organizational skills to maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in good condition., • Flexibility to take on additional duties as required to support project completion. You will regularly use hand and power tools, tape measures, and other construction equipment, and you will perform daily inspections and upkeep of your work vehicle. The setting is active and hands-on, requiring adherence to safety practices while working around tools, materials, and other trades on site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
