Job DescriptionAbout Omega Contractors Omega Contractors is a commercial and industrial electrical contractor serving Austin and Central Texas. Our work includes commercial and industrial electrical construction, equipment installations, facility upgrades, shutdowns, power distribution, controls, lighting, and ongoing facility maintenance. We are seeking experienced Commercial/Industrial Electrical Apprentices who already have field experience and can contribute productively to a commercial or industrial electrical crew. This is not an entry-level position. Position Summary The Experienced Commercial/Industrial Electrical Apprentice is responsible for assisting journeymen and foremen with electrical installations while independently completing tasks appropriate to the apprentice’s demonstrated experience and competency. Applicants should have previous commercial or industrial electrical construction experience, understand basic electrical installation methods, and be able to work with limited supervision on assigned tasks. The successful candidate must be dependable, productive, willing to learn, and capable of progressing toward journeyman-level responsibilities. Primary Responsibilities • Assist with commercial and industrial electrical installations according to drawings, specifications, codes, and project requirements., • Complete assigned electrical tasks under the supervision of a licensed journeyman electrician or foreman., • Measure, cut, bend, install, and support EMT and other raceway systems., • Install conduit supports, cable tray, wireways, junction boxes, device boxes, and electrical equipment supports., • Pull, route, label, and organize branch-circuit and feeder conductors., • Assist with conductor terminations, equipment connections, testing, and troubleshooting., • Install lighting fixtures, receptacles, switches, devices, and related electrical components., • Assist with the installation of panels, disconnects, transformers, motor controls, and commercial or industrial equipment., • Read and follow electrical drawings, panel schedules, installation details, and layout information., • Identify installation concerns, drawing conflicts, damaged materials, and material shortages and report them to the journeyman or foreman., • Follow circuit-identification, conductor-labeling, torque, and quality-control requirements., • Assist with electrical shutdowns, equipment outages, testing, energization, and commissioning activities., • Correct workmanship deficiencies identified by the journeyman, foreman, quality personnel, or inspectors., • Complete assigned tasks within established labor and schedule expectations., • Participate in daily pre-task planning and job-hazard discussions., • Properly use ladders, aerial lifts, power tools, hand tools, and electrical installation equipment., • Maintain clean, organized, and professional work areas., • Properly use and protect company tools, equipment, vehicles, and materials., • Follow company policies, project procedures, quality requirements, and job-site rules., • Immediately report safety concerns, defective equipment, damaged materials, quality issues, and potential delays., • Valid Texas Electrical Apprentice License., • At least two years of commercial or industrial electrical construction experience., • This is not an entry-level position; applicants must have previous field experience., • Working knowledge of common electrical materials, tools, and installation methods., • Experience installing and bending EMT conduit., • Experience installing boxes, supports, devices, lighting, and branch-circuit wiring., • Experience pulling, routing, labeling, and organizing electrical conductors., • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and electrical construction equipment., • Basic ability to read electrical drawings, panel schedules, and installation details., • Ability to perform basic electrical measurements and layout., • Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks with limited supervision., • Ability to work effectively with foremen, journeymen, other apprentices, customers, and other trades., • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation., • Must provide and maintain the hand tools required for the position., • Must be dependable and consistently report to work as scheduled., • Three or more years of commercial or industrial electrical experience., • Experience in both commercial and industrial electrical construction., • Experience working in active commercial, production, or manufacturing environments., • Experience installing conduit, cable tray, wireways, supports, and electrical equipment., • Experience with rigid conduit, intermediate metal conduit, PVC, flexible conduit, and larger raceway systems., • Experience assisting with feeder installations and large conductor pulls., • Experience with lighting systems, lighting controls, tenant improvements, and commercial renovations., • Experience with panels, transformers, disconnects, switchgear, motor controls, and industrial equipment., • Experience with electrical shutdowns, scheduled outages, and weekend work., • Ability to perform basic electrical troubleshooting under the direction of a journeyman., • Enrollment in or completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship training program., • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification., • Aerial lift and forklift training., • First Aid and CPR certification., • Experience using digital drawings, construction applications, or electronic reporting systems., • Weekday overtime., • Friday and Saturday work., • Scheduled shutdowns., • Early morning start times., • Occasional night work., • Work in active commercial, industrial, and manufacturing facilities., • Travel to project locations throughout Austin and Central Texas., • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, and work for extended periods., • Regularly lift and carry electrical materials, tools, and equipment., • Lift up to 50 pounds without assistance., • Work from ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts., • Work overhead and in confined or restricted work areas., • Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions., • Work around operating equipment and active construction activities., • Wear required personal protective equipment., • Safely perform the physical duties associated with commercial and industrial electrical construction., • Years of commercial and industrial electrical experience., • Current apprentice classification and demonstrated competency., • Conduit-bending and raceway-installation ability., • Ability to read and follow electrical drawings., • Experience with branch circuits, feeders, equipment, and terminations., • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks., • Relevant training and certifications., • Demonstrated safety, quality, productivity, and attendance. Minimum QualificationsPreferred QualificationsSchedule and Work Expectations Omega Contractors typically works 10-hour shifts, with employees averaging 50–60 hours per week. Work schedules may include: Schedules may change based on customer requirements, project deadlines, production restrictions, and shutdown availability. Applicants must be able to consistently work the established project schedule, including overtime and weekend work when required. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to: Compensation The hourly pay range for this position is $22.00–$30.00 per hour. Starting pay will be based on: Candidates considered for the upper end of the pay range should be advanced apprentices who can independently complete many common commercial and industrial electrical tasks while working under the supervision of a licensed electrician. Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable wage and hour requirements. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical apprentice who can contribute immediately to a commercial or industrial crew. The candidate should understand common electrical materials and installation methods, safely operate required tools and equipment, and complete assigned work without constant direction. The successful candidate will be dependable, productive, organized, receptive to instruction, and committed to developing the technical knowledge and field experience necessary to obtain a Texas Journeyman Electrician License.
