Workshop Foreman Metal Manufacturing Location: Barnsley Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 DOE Hours: Monday Friday, 07:00 17:30 (40 hours per week) The Opportunity We are currently recruiting for an experienced Workshop Foreman to join a well-established manufacturing business based in Barnsley. This is a key leadership role within a specialist metal manufacturing environment, responsible for overseeing day-to-day workshop operations, managing production teams, and ensuring manufacturing targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The successful candidate will have experience working within a metalworking, engineering, fabrication, or heavy manufacturing environment, with the ability to lead teams, improve processes, and drive operational performance. Key ResponsibilitiesWorkshop & Production Operations • Oversee daily workshop and production activities to ensure customer requirements and production targets are achieved., • Manage workflow, resources, and staffing levels to maximise efficiency., • Monitor production processes, equipment utilisation, and output performance., • Identify and resolve operational issues, implementing corrective actions where required., • Work closely with maintenance teams to minimise downtime and improve equipment reliability., • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to required quality standards. Team Leadership & Management, • Lead, motivate, and develop workshop operatives and production personnel., • Allocate workloads and resources based on operational priorities., • Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks, and team updates., • Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and feedback., • Promote a positive working culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Health & Safety, • Ensure all workshop activities are completed in line with company health and safety procedures., • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe working practices., • Carry out regular workplace inspections and safety observations., • Support investigations into incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions., • Ensure correct PPE requirements and safety standards are maintained. Quality & Compliance, • Ensure products are manufactured to customer specifications and internal quality standards., • Monitor quality throughout production processes and address any issues., • Ensure accurate completion of production documentation and records. Continuous Improvement, • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and increase efficiency., • Support the implementation of process improvements and new working practices., • Monitor production performance, KPIs, and operational data., • Contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives across the workshop. Administration & Reporting, • Complete workshop reports, production records, and performance documentation., • Maintain accurate production data and reporting information., • Attend production meetings and support operational planning., • Utilise systems including Microsoft Excel for data recording and analysis. About You The successful Workshop Foreman will have: • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment., • Experience working within a metalworking environment (essential)., • Background in areas such as fabrication, metal processing, machining, casting, presses, or engineering production., • Experience managing teams within a workshop or production setting., • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and production documentation., • Knowledge of manufacturing machinery and processes., • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively., • Excellent communication and leadership abilities., • Experience working with production data, KPIs, and performance reporting., • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement. Desirable Experience, • Experience within metal fabrication or heavy manufacturing., • Knowledge of welding, saws, routers, presses, or similar production equipment., • Experience working within environments where safety, quality, and compliance are critical., • Understanding of environmental controls and manufacturing standards.
