Chartered Building Surveyor – Exeter \n Location: Exeter \n Salary: £60,000+ \n Benefits: Bonus, car/car allowance, private medical cover, pension, life assurance and excellent wider benefits \n \n The Opportunity \n An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chartered Building Surveyor to join my client’s established Architecture and Building Surveying team in Exeter. \n My client is one of the UK’s most respected and established property consultancies, with a strong national presence and an excellent reputation across commercial property, development, rural estates, heritage assets and professional advisory services. \n Based within a multidisciplinary Exeter office of 35+ professionals, you will join an experienced Architecture and Building Surveying team that forms part of a wider national discipline of more than 50 specialists. \n The role offers an excellent combination of professional Building Surveying and project-led work, with exposure to a varied portfolio of commercial, residential, heritage, institutional and privately owned property. \n There is considerable scope to tailor the position around the successful individual’s experience. For an established surveyor, there will also be opportunities to develop client relationships, generate new instructions and play an important role in the continued growth of the Building Surveying offering in Exeter. \n \n The Role \n Working closely with colleagues across Building Surveying, Architecture and the wider multidisciplinary business, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality professional and project services to an established client base. \n Your responsibilities will include: \n\n • Preparing specifications and tender documentation\n, • Managing tender processes and contractor appointments\n, • Contract Administration and project delivery\n, • Delivering projects and programmes of work typically ranging from £30,000 to £2 million, subject to experience\n, • Undertaking pre-purchase Building Surveys across residential and commercial property\n, • Technical due diligence and acquisition advice\n, • Preparing Schedules of Condition for leasehold and other purposes\n, • Undertaking property inspections and preparing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) Schedules\n, • Preparing reinstatement cost assessments across individual properties and wider portfolios\n, • Providing technical advice and consultancy on building defects and undertaking defect diagnosis\n, • Advising clients on refurbishment and improvement projects\n, • Supporting conservation and heritage-led projects where appropriate\n, • Providing advice in relation to landlord and tenant matters\n, • Delivering a consistently high standard of client service\n, • Maintaining and developing relationships with the existing client base\n, • Identifying opportunities for additional instructions and generating new leads\n, • Working collaboratively with colleagues across Architecture and other property disciplines\n\n Depending on your level of experience, there will also be scope to take greater responsibility for client development, fee generation and business growth within Exeter. \n \n About You \n My client is looking for a commercially aware Building Surveyor who combines strong technical capability with excellent communication and client-facing skills. \n Ideally, you will have: \n\n • MRICS Chartered status\n, • Strong post-qualified Building Surveying experience\n, • Experience delivering both professional and project-based Building Surveying instructions\n, • Contract Administration and project delivery experience\n, • Strong technical knowledge across a variety of property types\n, • Experience undertaking Building Surveys and technical due diligence\n, • Knowledge of Schedules of Condition, PPM programmes, defect analysis and reinstatement cost assessments\n, • Excellent report writing and communication skills\n, • The ability to develop trusted relationships with clients, contractors and other professional advisers\n, • A commercial approach and an interest in developing client relationships and generating new work\n, • The ability to work autonomously while contributing to a wider multidisciplinary team\n, • Experience working with historic, listed or heritage buildings would be highly advantageous\n, • A full UK driving licence\n\n For more experienced candidates, a proven ability to win work, generate fees and develop long-term client relationships would be particularly attractive. \n \n The Team \n You will be based within my client’s multidisciplinary Exeter office of 35+ people, working alongside professionals from a variety of property and consultancy disciplines. \n The Architecture and Building Surveying team combines a wide range of experience and works as part of a wider national network of more than 50 professionals. \n This structure provides the benefits of a strong local team alongside access to the expertise, client relationships and resources of a major national consultancy. \n The working environment is collaborative and professional, with individuals encouraged to take ownership of their work, develop their specialist interests and build long-term relationships with clients. \n \n About My Client \n My client is a highly regarded national property consultancy advising an extensive range of private, commercial and institutional clients.
