If you are passionate about making a real impact in the world of chemistry, this is the opportunity for you!Key responsibilitiesComplete scheduled work on time, within budget, and within specificationAchieve right first-time results to reduce reworkEnsure timely delivery in full for all projectsUnderstand underlying chemical and physical principles before starting assigned workEffectively monitor all reactions to prevent incomplete work-upsReport any batch failures or unexpected results immediately to the Chemistry ManagerIdentify and communicate opportunities for improving chemical proceduresEfficiently complete custom synthesis/NPI projects, including crafting synthetic routes, improving existing routes, and troubleshootingContribute to writing and revising detailed proceduresMaintain complete and accurate records of all workPlan and manage continuous improvement (CI) projectsSupport the development of new products within the companyAccurately record, interpret, and report all generated dataStay up-to-date with relevant current literature and technical developmentsReview, optimise, and define manufacturing instructions for continuous improvementEnsure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulationsMeet key performance benchmarks:Right first-time (RFT)Delivery to plan (DTP)Efficiency (number of batches completed per chemist per week)QualificationsKnowledge, Experience, Skills, and CertificationsPhD or equivalent experience in ChemistryMinimum of 10 years industrial experience or relevant postdocProven project management experienceExperience working in a quality-led laboratory environmentBatch manufacture experience from <10 g to at least 1 kgDemonstrated success in product development projectsExperience with contract/custom synthesis projectsProven experience in process improvement and scale-up projectsExperience in projects involving new product developmentDesirable: Knowledge of oligonucleotide synthesisKnowledge and experience in:Synthetic organic synthesisSetting up and working up reactionsPurification of materials (column chromatography, crystallisation, precipitation, distillation)Analysis by TLC, HPLC, LCMS, NMRProcess improvement projectsPerson specificationEnthusiastic great teammate with outstanding communication skillsAttention to detail and accuracy in workFlexibility to adapt to changing operating conditionsMethodical and reliable work approach in a highly organised mannerApproachable and helpful demeanorProactively resolves tough situations and pushes through solutionsCommercial awareness with an ambition for personal and business growthAbility to mentor and develop less experienced chemistsAdditional InformationABOUT LGC:LGC is a leading, global life science tools company, providing mission-critical components and solutions into high-growth application areas across the human healthcare and applied market segments.
