The OpportunityWe have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Geotechnical Engineer to join our Consulting Geotechnical Practice, preferably based in our International Design Hub (central Birmingham) although candidates based in Manchester or Cardiff will be considered.The successful candidate will play an integral role within the geotechnical team responsible for delivering geotechnical projects across England and Wales. The team delivers a range of local, national and international projects for clients including National Highways, Local Governments, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defence and Welsh Government.Our geotechnical team works closely with our International Design Hub based multidisciplinary team encapsulating Highway Engineering, Bridge/Structural Engineering, Geo-Environmental Engineering and Traffic Engineering/Transport Planning. Via this multidisciplinary team, and utilising the businesses within the wider Amey Group such as Amey Transport Infrastructure, Amey Consulting are able to deliver projects from feasibility right through to post construction close out. This unique ecosystem offers our clients a one-stop shop and offers our staff the opportunity to grow and develop in a knowledge-rich environment, with specialists who are eager to assist and mentor their development.Our key clients include:National Highways Midlands and South West RegionsNational Highways Specialist Bridge Infrastructure ManagementMidlands Highways AllianceStaffordshire County CouncilTrafford CouncilSwindon Borough CouncilSheffield City CouncilMinistry of JusticeMinistry of DefenceSouth Wales Trunk Road AgentNorth and Mid Wales Trunk Road AgentSouth East Wales Technical and Professional Services FrameworkMidlands Expressway LimitedThe Amey Geotechnical PracticeOur Geotechnical Practice has a total of 70 geotechnical and Geo-Environmental practitioners, comprising experienced Geotechnical Engineers, Engineering Geologists and Geo-Environmental Consultants, which play a pivotal role on all our major and minor civil/structural engineering schemes.Our core geotechnical consultancy services include the following:Desk Studies / Feasibility AssessmentsGround Investigations – scoping, planning, procuring, supervising and reportingDesign of earthworks, rock slopes, reinforced soil, foundations, retaining structures and ground improvement schemesTechnical review and Geotechnical Risk AnalysisGeotechnical Asset ManagementIn addition, the Geotechnical Practice provides input into Contract Documents and Health and Safety Documents for Tendering Construction Packages, while offering design support to multi-discipline site teams during construction works on all geotechnical elements.The roleAs a Geotechnical Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to the Senior Engineer and/or Principal Engineer on a variety of ground engineering schemes whilst taking the lead on specific project deliverables and mentoring junior engineers and technicians. Responsibilities include:Aiding in the production of technically sound engineering solutions.Taking ownership and leading specific project deliverables from start to finish.Preparation of designs, calculations and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme.Liaising with Client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries.Contributing to the preparation of bids and general work winning function.Play an active role in the effective Health and Safety practices within the team.What you will bring to us:Working towards Chartered or Incorporated status as defined by the Institution of Civil Engineers, Geological Society of London, or another relevant professional body.Developed experience and expertise within the geotechnical field, gained in an Assistant Engineer role or equivalent.Obtained a solid working knowledge of technical reporting procedures, in accordance with National Highways standards including CD 622, and design production in accordance with EC7, the DMRB and the MCHW.Takes ownership for the preparation of deliverables.Good working knowledge of relevant software and similar analytical tools (e.g Wallap, SlopeW etc).Demonstrates good commercial awareness and understanding of CDM and risk assessment.Experience in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.Demonstrates a good understanding of interface management, and ensures own deliverables align with deliverables produced by other disciplines.What we can offer you: What we can offer Our benefits are designed to help you thrive at work and in your home life.
