Job Description Equipment Delivery Driver/Shop Assistant Position Summary A demolition contractor is seeking an experienced Equipment Delivery Driver/Shop Assistant to transport heavy equipment, tools, and materials to jobsites using company trucks and trailers. This is not an entry-level driving or shop position. Candidates must have substantial relevant experience to be considered. The successful candidate must have extensive hands-on experience towing trailers, loading and unloading equipment, securing loads, operating heavy equipment, and safely transporting equipment such as Bobcats, skid steers, scissor lifts, and other demolition equipment. Previous experience as a tow truck driver, equipment transport driver, heavy equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, roadside service technician, or a closely related position is required. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, safety-focused, dependable, and capable of working independently without constant instruction or oversight. Work hours may vary based on project schedules. Availability for early mornings, overtime, and occasional schedule changes is required. Key Responsibilities • Safely transport heavy equipment, tools, materials, and supplies to and from jobsites using company trucks and trailers., • Load, unload, operate, and properly secure equipment such as Bobcats, skid steers, scissor lifts, compact equipment, tools, and other jobsite materials., • Safely hitch, unhitch, back, maneuver, park, and tow equipment trailers in shop, yard, jobsite, and public roadway environments., • Select and use the appropriate chains, binders, straps, tie-down points, and load securement methods for each delivery., • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of company trucks, trailers, hitches, tires, lights, brakes, safety chains, and load securement., • Plan delivery routes and coordinate equipment deliveries, pickups, and schedule changes with the Shop Manager., • Maintain communication with the Shop Manager while making deliveries and immediately report delays, damage, safety concerns, or equipment issues., • Inspect equipment before delivery and upon return to confirm it is complete, operational, and in acceptable condition., • Assist with diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, small engines, and demolition tools in the shop and at jobsites., • Perform routine preventative maintenance, including inspections, fluid checks, fueling, lubrication, battery checks, tire inspections, and minor repairs., • Maintain accurate records of equipment deliveries, pickups, inspections, maintenance, damage, fuel, and repairs., • Keep the shop, yard, trucks, trailers, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and ready for use., • Identify equipment or mechanical problems, determine the appropriate next steps, and communicate repair needs promptly., • Assist with inventory control and ensure equipment, tools, and supplies are properly checked out, returned, and stored., • Support building and grounds maintenance as needed., • Follow all company safety procedures, load securement requirements, traffic laws, and applicable OSHA and DOT regulations., • Complete assigned responsibilities accurately, safely, and on time., • Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications • Minimum of three years of professional experience towing trailers and transporting equipment, vehicles, or heavy loads., • Previous professional experience as a tow truck driver, equipment transport driver, heavy equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, roadside service technician, or in a closely related position., • Previous experience transporting equipment for a demolition, construction, equipment rental, towing, or excavation company., • Extensive experience driving pickup trucks while towing equipment trailers through active jobsites, heavy traffic, and confined spaces., • Demonstrated ability to safely load, unload, operate, and secure heavy equipment for transportation., • Experience with trailer connections, load distribution, weight limitations, chains, binders, straps, tie-down points, and securement procedures., • Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing trucks, trailers, hydraulic equipment, small engines, power tools, and heavy equipment., • Ability to safely operate equipment such as Bobcats, skid steers, scissor lifts, and other compact construction or demolition equipment., • Valid driver’s license with a clean 39-month motor vehicle record., • Ability to pass all company driving and insurance eligibility requirements., • Commercial driver’s license or previous DOT-regulated driving experience., • Current or previous OSHA, forklift, aerial lift, or equipment operation certifications., • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to inspect equipment, recognize problems, troubleshoot issues, and determine when professional repair is required., • Ability to work independently, solve problems, adapt to changing delivery schedules, and complete assignments without continual direction or reminders., • Strong communication, organization, time-management, and follow-through skills., • Ability to safely perform physical work, including lifting, climbing, bending, securing loads, and working outdoors in Arizona weather., • Availability to work early mornings, overtime, and varying hours based on project requirements.
