HVAC Service Technician

Job Description The shop you liked probably got bought. We didn't. If you've been in this trade a few years in King or Pierce County, you've watched it happen. The shop you liked gets acquired. New logo, new software, new revenue target set by a regional manager you will never meet. The person who used to sign your check becomes a line item in somebody's roll-up. Green City Heating and Air Conditioning is still owned by the family that started it. Jeff and Katrina Simonson opened the doors in Auburn in 2011, and four family members run the company today. There are about twenty of us. We don't subcontract a single job — every service call, every install, every warranty return is handled by our own people, to our own standard. Our team averages eight years of tenure. In residential HVAC, that is the only culture statistic that means anything. The numbers, up front Most HVAC postings in this market say "competitive pay," "great benefits," and "spiffs," and then never tell you what any of it means. Here is ours in actual figures: • $32.00 – $48.00 per hour base, depending on experience, • Uncapped performance pay — commission and spiffs on maintenance agreements, indoor air quality equipment, accessories, and system upgrades (Tech Generated Leads). No cap, no ceiling, no cutoff once you hit a number, • Our average service technician clears $100,000 - $125,000 a year, base + performance pay, • And there's a rung above this one. The highest earning Service Technician is on pace for more than $175,000 this year (averaging $120,000-$150,000 in revenue per month)., • $2,000 sign-on bonus, • 401(k) with a 4% company match — a real number, not "401(k) with match", • Your choice of a 4-day (4/10) workweek or a standard Monday–Friday. Your call, not a dispatcher's What the work actually is This is a true service seat — diagnostics, repair, and honest customer solutions, start to finish. Not filter swaps, and not a script. • Diagnose and repair residential heat pumps, gas furnaces, ductless mini-splits, air conditioners, and boilers, • Troubleshoot across electrical, refrigerant, airflow, and control problems, • Run every call start to finish and document it accurately in Housecall Pro on a company tablet, • Verify manufacturer warranty coverage, order parts, and complete the warranty paperwork so the customer actually gets what they're owed, • Explain repair-versus-replace in plain language, with options a homeowner can genuinely choose between, • Recommend our Comfort Care maintenance plan, IAQ products, and system upgrades — honestly, at the customer's pace, • Write estimates, secure approval, and collect payment when required, • Arrive on time, protect the home, and leave the work area cleaner than you found it, • Drive a company service van to customer homes across King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. Driving to customer sites is an essential function of this position. How we run — and why techs stay eight years • You will always know what "done" looks like. Every service call runs against a written standard. Not "however they taught you at the last place," and not whatever the busiest tech decided that morning., • You will be coached on your own numbers. In a recurring service meeting we go through first-time completion, callbacks, average ticket, and membership conversion — your specific jobs, your specific numbers, on a regular cadence. Not a vague performance conversation nine months after the fact., • Nobody is running a leaderboard on you. Performance pay rewards the work you actually complete and the solutions customers actually want. If you've worked somewhere that ran on guesswork, this is the opposite of that. If you've worked somewhere that ran on pressure, this is also the opposite of that.
