Area Superintendent, Knoxville, TN — General Contractor – Commercial Construction About AH Construction AH Construction is an expanding commercial general contractor committed to building exceptional projects and an exceptional team. We are looking for an experienced Area Superintendent to join us in Tennessee and take ownership of a defined area of our commercial construction projects. The Area Superintendent works under the direction of the Superintendent and is responsible for the day-to-day field execution within their assigned area of the project. This includes coordinating subcontractors and field activities, maintaining safety and quality standards, driving schedule performance, managing site logistics, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with the plans, specifications, and AH Construction’s standards. The Opportunity As an Area Superintendent at AH Construction, you will be responsible for the successful field execution of a defined area or portion of a commercial construction project. Working closely with the Superintendent, Project Manager, Assistant Superintendent, subcontractors, and AH Construction’s internal team, you will coordinate the daily work in your assigned area and ensure activities remain aligned with the overall project schedule. You will be responsible for coordinating subcontractors, sequencing work, monitoring manpower and productivity, maintaining quality and safety standards, resolving field issues, and keeping your area organized and moving forward. You will serve as a key connection between the Superintendent and the field teams working within your area. Our work focuses on multi-family, office/mixed-use, and retail projects. This is a high-impact role for a construction professional who is ready to take meaningful ownership of a portion of a major commercial project and grow as a field leader. What You'll Do • Own your assigned area — take responsibility for the day-to-day field operations, coordination, progress, and overall performance of your designated area of the project, • Drive the schedule — coordinate sequencing and daily activities within your area to maintain progress against the overall project schedule, • Coordinate subcontractors and trades — direct daily activities, manpower, deliveries, access, and sequencing to keep work moving efficiently, • Partner with the Superintendent — communicate progress, challenges, manpower needs, schedule impacts, and field conditions while supporting the overall project execution plan, • Lead field coordination — conduct and participate in daily planning, toolbox talks, subcontractor coordination, and other field meetings as directed, • Champion safety — maintain a safe, organized jobsite within your assigned area and enforce AH Construction’s safety standards and applicable regulations, • Own quality control — ensure work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and AH Construction’s standards, • Read and interpret plans — identify conflicts, coordinate field conditions, and work with the Superintendent, Project Manager, design team, and trade partners to resolve issues, • Monitor progress and productivity — track manpower, materials, equipment, and production within your area and communicate potential impacts before they affect the overall project, • Manage area logistics — coordinate deliveries, staging, access, cleanliness, temporary conditions, and other logistics necessary to maintain an efficient work environment, • Proactively solve problems — identify field issues early, develop practical solutions, and escalate issues appropriately when additional support is needed, • Coordinate with the Assistant Superintendent — provide direction, support, and daily priorities while helping develop the Assistant Superintendent’s field leadership skills, • Manage inspections and closeout activities — coordinate inspections, punch lists, corrections, testing, and turnover activities within your assigned area, • Build strong trade relationships — establish a culture of accountability, respect, and teamwork with subcontractors and trade partners, • Maintain field documentation — ensure daily reports, progress updates, photographs, inspections, and other required field documentation are completed accurately and consistently, • Represent AH Construction — serve as a professional, solutions-oriented field leader and ensure your area reflects the quality and standards of AH Construction What We're Looking For • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; and/or equivalent field experience will be considered, • 10+ years of commercial construction projects highly preferred, • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, scheduling, site logistics, quality control, and subcontractor coordination, • Proven ability to lead and hold subcontractors and trade partners accountable to schedule, quality, safety, and project expectations, • Strong knowledge of commercial construction plans, specifications, and contract documents, with the ability to identify conflicts and resolve field issues, • Demonstrated commitment to jobsite safety and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment including experience implementing safety practices and maintaining a safe, organized work environment, • Ability to understand and manage short-term schedules and daily work plans within an assigned area of a larger project, • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced field environment, • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate subcontractors, trade partners, Superintendents, Project Manager, and field staff., • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities on an active construction site, • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Autodesk or similar construction platforms preferred, • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training preferred What Success Looks Like At AH Construction, a great Area Superintendent is more than someone who keeps work moving in a designated area. Area Superintendents should expect to spend the majority of their time actively engaged in their assigned area of the construction site, walking the work, coordinating trades, monitoring progress, addressing field issues, and ensuring work is being performed safely and to AH Construction’s standards. This is a hands-on field position that requires the ability to work effectively in an active construction environment and respond to the changing demands of the project.
