Job Description American Baptist College Job Description Director of Campus Operations, Facilities & Security Position Summary The Director of Campus Operations, Facilities & Security leads the planning, management, and continuous improvement of campus facilities, operations, safety, security, emergency preparedness, and environmental health functions. Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer, the Director is responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, functional, and welcoming campus environment that supports the College's educational mission, student success, and institutional effectiveness. The Director oversees campus operations, facilities management, maintenance, custodial services, groundskeeping, transportation, contracted services, access control systems, campus security personnel, emergency response planning, and regulatory compliance. The position serves as a key member of the Finance & Administration administrative leadership team and collaborates closely with administrators, students, faculty, staff, community partners, and public safety agencies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Campus Operations & Facilities Management • Direct and oversee all campus operational functions, including facilities maintenance, custodial services, grounds management, utilities, transportation, and building systems. • Develop and maintain a comprehensive deferred maintenance program for academic and instructional facilities to preserve academic and instructional facilities and ensure efficient facility operations. • Monitor the condition of campus buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, recommending capital improvement projects and facility upgrades. • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and procurement processes related to operational services. • Oversee facility usage, event support logistics, campus space management, and operational readiness. • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to facilities, environmental health, and occupational safety. • Collaborate with institutional leadership on campus master planning, construction projects, renovations, and infrastructure development. • Prepare and manage departmental budgets; monitor expenditures and identify costsaving opportunities. • Direct the use and administration of facilities management software systems to manage work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and asset inventories. Campus Safety & Security • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive campus security and safety programs. • Supervise campus security personnel and contracted security providers., • Establish and enforce policies related to campus access control, visitor management, key control, surveillance systems, and emergency procedures. • Coordinate security coverage for campus events, special programs, and high-profile activities. • Conduct regular safety and security assessments and implement corrective actions as needed. • Oversee the operation and maintenance of security technologies, including cameras, alarm systems, emergency notification systems, and access control platforms. • Investigate security incidents and coordinate reporting, documentation, and follow - up actions. • Maintain productive relationships with local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency management agencies, and community stakeholders. Emergency Preparedness & Risk Management • Lead the College's emergency preparedness, crisis management, and business continuity planning efforts. • Develop, update, and test emergency response plans through drills, exercises, and training programs. • Coordinate emergency communications and incident management during campus emergencies. • Serve as a member of the College's Emergency Response Team and provide leadership during critical incidents. • Identify and mitigate operational and security risks affecting campus stakeholders and assets. • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, risk management, and reporting requirements. Leadership & Administration • Serve as institutional lead for federally funded facilities projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and sustainability of grant-funded infrastructure initiatives. • Collaborate with academic leadership, faculty, staff, architects, contractors and other professionals to ensure facility projects support academic programs and learning outcomes • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate operational and security personnel., • Promote a culture of customer service, accountability, responsiveness, and continuous improvement. • Develop policies, procedures, and performance standards for campus operations and security functions. • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for executive leadership, board committees, and external agencies. • Foster positive working relationships across campus and support a welcoming, inclusive community environment. • Participate in strategic planning initiatives and institutional accreditation efforts as required. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Facilities Management, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Security Management, or a related field. • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in facilities operations, campus operations, public safety, security management, or related areas. • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, personnel, contracts, and operational projects. • Knowledge of campus safety practices, emergency management principles, and regulatory compliance requirements. • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills., • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic higher education environment. • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in higher education, faith-based institutions, or nonprofit organizations., • Experience administering federally funded facilities, capital improvement or grantfunded infrastructure projects • Professional certifications such as: o Certified Protection Professional (CPP) o Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) o Facilities Management Professional (FMP) o Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP) o OSHA Safety Certification • Experience with campus security technologies, emergency notification systems, and building management systems. • Training in Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of facilities management, maintenance operations, and building systems. • Knowledge of ADA accessibility standards and building code requirements, • Knowledge of campus security operations, emergency preparedness, and risk assessment methodologies. • Ability to lead diverse teams and build collaborative relationships., • Strong project management and budget administration abilities., • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills., • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment., • Commitment to customer service and the mission of American Baptist College. Physical Requirements • Ability to conduct inspections throughout campus facilities and grounds., • Ability to respond to emergencies outside normal business hours., • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally., • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions. Work Environment This position requires evening, weekend, and holiday work to support campus operations, emergencies, and special events. The Director serves as an essential employee and may be required to report during adverse weather conditions or emergency situations.
