Job DescriptionSCOPE OF WORKThis position aims to provide efficient and accurate processing of recyclable material (CRV beverage, e-waste, waste tires, used oil, and used mattresses) collected from buy-backs, routes, and special collection events. Senior Program Specialists must be well-versed in and follow SCC safety and operational rules and procedures, as well as internal and external state regulations. They must also have the willingness and ability to mentor and professionally work alongside Corps Members to promote and inspire their growth.ACCOUNTABILITIESDriving / Local Collections & SpikeInspect trucks prior to beginning routes to ensure safe operating conditionDrive trucks, following established routes, through residential streets or alleys or through business or industrial areasOperate equipment that compresses collected refuseDrop off recyclable materials at Legacy Processing FacilityDismount from collection trucks to collect recyclables (beverage containers & e-waste) and remount trucks to ride to the next collection point within incorporated and unincorporated areas and the U.S. Forest and National ParkCommunicate with the Assistant Director or Program Coordinator concerning delays, unsafe sites, accidents, equipment breakdowns, or other maintenance problemsClean trucks or flatbeds after routes have been completedMake special pickups of recyclable materials, such as e-waste, used oil, waste tires, or beverage containersMove freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, collection vehicles, trailers, or containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipmentInstall protective devices, such as bracing, padding, or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transportedAbility to weatherize and open and close a campsiteLaborer & Material Mover, HandlerSort materials, such as e-waste, waste tires, and CRV aluminum, plastic, and glass, from garbage into appropriate containers for recyclingClean recycling yard by sweeping, raking, picking up broken glass and loose paper debris, or moving barrels and binsOperate forklifts, pallet jacks, power lifts, or front-end loaders to load bales, bundles, or other heavy items onto trucks for shipping to smelters or other recycled materials processing facilitiesClean, inspect, or lubricate recyclable collection equipment or perform routine maintenance or minor repairs on recycling equipment, such as densifiers, balers, weight scales, and processing line beltsDeposit recoverable materials into chutes or place materials on conveyor beltsOperate balers to compress recyclable materials into bundles or balesSort and track materials, such as CRV beverage containers (aluminum, plastic, and glass), e-waste, waste tires, and mattresses, according to recycling requirementsRecord logs of recycled materials as required by SCC-CSET, CalRecycle, and DTSC requirementsCollect recyclable materials (CRV beverage containers and e-waste) from curbside for delivery to designated facilitiesOperate automated refuse or manual recycling collection vehiclesSort cargo before loading and shipping to processor and recyclerCarry out general yard duties, such as mowing and weed whackingWash out recycling containers or storage areasSpecial Collection EventsWork non-traditional days and hoursMove levers or controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts, lift beams with swivel hooks, hoists, or elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, or stack materialMove controls to drive gasoline- or electric-powered trucks, cars, or tractors and transport materials between loading, processing, and storage areasManually or mechanically load or unload materials (CRV beverage containers, e-waste, and mattresses) from pallets, skids, platforms, cars, lifting devices, or other transport vehiclesPosition lifting devices under, over, or around loaded pallets, recycling bins, or boxes and secure material or products for transport to designated areasInspect product loads (e-waste, CRV beverage containers, or mattresses) for accuracy and safely move them around the warehouse or facility to ensure timely and complete processingWeigh materials or products and record weight or other production data on tags or labels as required by SCC-CSET, CalRecycle, or DTSCOperate or tend automatic stacking, loading, packaging, or cutting machinesAttach slings, hooks, or other devices to lift cargo and guide loadsMaintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protectedAdjust controls to guide, position, or move equipment, such as collection bins and e-wasteGuide loads being lifted to prevent swingingBuy-BackPayout by cash for CRV beverage materialAnswer customers' questions and provide information on procedures or policies in accordance with SCC-CSET and CalRecycle policies and regulationsIssue receipts or change due to customers accuratelyGreet customers bringing CRV or other material to an SCC-CSET establishmentMentor Corps Members and assist in providing on-the-job trainingAssist customers by providing information and resolving their complaints as they relate to a buy-backMaintain clean and orderly checkout areas and complete other general cleaning duties, such as sweeping floors and emptying trash cansEnsure that all opening and closing processes are completed daily in accordance with SCC-CSET and CalRecycle policies and regulationsWeigh items sold by weight to determine pricesSort, weigh, and track all incoming CRV beverage material daily via internal tracking logs to ensure that material is properly tagged for shippingComplete shipping logs when shipping to ensure that material is properly accounted for at the internal facility as well as the recycling processorProperly alert chain of command when material does not reconcile based on total sales when doing daily weigh-in and when shipping and processing material at the recycling processorAssist with duties in other areas of the facility, such as monitoring the processing facility and assisting colleagues and Corps Members with other assignmentsCount money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure amounts are correct and that there is adequate changeCalculate total payments received during a time period and reconcile this with total salesKeep periodic balance sheets of amounts and numbers of transactionsCompute and record totals of transactionsSort, count, wrap, and/or unwrap currency and coinsCompile and maintain non-monetary weigh and customer reports and recordsMentorHelp build rapport each time he/she meets with a new Corps MemberAsk open-ended "how" and "what" questions to Corps Members working alongside him/herChallenge and/or encourage Corps Members depending on what the situation requiresOffer This position is classified as Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with California and federal law.
