POSITION SUMMARY The AI & Applications Engineer designs, builds, and maintains internal software applications and AI-powered tools that improve how the Company works. This role uses AI-enabled development to deliver full-stack solutions that connect the Company's core systems, streamline workflows, and put reliable data and intelligent automation into the hands of operations and functional teams. The position is highly hands-on and self-directed, well suited to a curious, ambitious individual who learns new domains quickly and enjoys taking an ambiguous problem from concept to a working, supportable solution. RESPONSIBILITIES • Design, develop, and maintain full-stack applications and internal tools that support operations, functional groups, and Company-wide workflows., • Build AI-powered features and applications including conversational agents, workflow automation, and system integrations, using modern AI frameworks and large language model APIs., • Apply AI-enabled development tools and practices to prototype, iterate, and ship working solutions quickly, and strengthen them for day-to-day use., • Integrate applications with the Company's core systems and data platforms to enable reliable, real-time data access and automation., • Work with data from the Company's data warehouse and related sources to support reporting, analytics, and data-driven features., • Collaborate with Operations, IT, Finance, and functional groups to understand needs, translate them into practical software solutions, and support end users through rollout and adoption., • Document applications, integrations, and data flows so that tools remain maintainable and supportable over time., • Apply sound data security, access control, and responsible AI practices in all tools that handle Company and project data, in coordination with IT., • Research emerging tools, frameworks, and best practices in software and AI engineering, and apply them to continuously improve the Company's applications. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience., • 2 – 6 years' experience building and shipping full-stack applications. Exceptional early-career candidates who can demonstrate this ability through internship or co-op work, academic projects, or a strong portfolio will be considered., • Construction industry experience is a plus but not required; domain context will be provided. Skills/Competencies: • Proficiency in full-stack application development, including modern web frameworks (e.g., Next.js or equivalent) and back-end services and APIs., • Experience building with AI frameworks and large language model APIs, or a strong, demonstrated aptitude to learn them quickly., • Comfort using AI-enabled development tools to accelerate delivery., • Ability to work with data, including relational databases and data from enterprise systems and data warehouses., • Self-directed, curious, and ambitious; able to take an ambiguous problem and drive it to a working solution with minimal oversight., • Strong problem-solving skills and sound engineering judgment., • Collaborative, proactive, and self-motivated., • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Position is based on-site at the Company's Corporate Headquarters in Rochester, NY, in an office environment., • Ability to travel for business meetings and functions, including occasional overnight travel, as required., • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
