Job Description Job Title: Automation & Controls Lead Job Description This role leads the automation and controls scope of industrial electrical projects from design through startup, with a strong focus on PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming. You will take ownership of programming efforts, support field automation projects, and provide technical direction to electricians and field technicians. The position requires deep industrial controls expertise, hands-on troubleshooting in live production environments, and the ability to establish and uphold automation standards that support company growth. Responsibilities • Lead the automation and controls portions of industrial electrical projects from initial design through commissioning and startup., • Develop, program, modify, and maintain PLC logic across multiple platforms, including RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, and Studio 5000., • Design and configure HMI and SCADA systems, ensuring reliable integration with PLCs and field devices., • Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues in live industrial production environments, including PLC logic, field devices, and communication networks., • Support instrumentation and field devices, including sensors, VFDs, motors, and I/O devices, during commissioning and ongoing operations., • Develop and implement industrial network architectures, including Ethernet/IP and CIP-based communication, to ensure robust and secure connectivity., • Provide panel integration guidance and collaborate with panel builders and electricians to ensure proper wiring, layout, and compliance with design specifications., • Lead commissioning and startup activities, including system testing, validation, and documentation of control systems., • Work closely with electricians and field technicians, providing direction, mentorship, and technical support in the field., • Interface professionally with customers and project managers to clarify requirements, provide status updates, and resolve technical issues., • Apply SCADA and industrial communication tools such as FactoryTalk, RSLinx, ControlNet, and DeviceNet to ensure seamless system integration., • Diagnose electrical, instrumentation, and network issues using schematics, drawings, and industrial control documentation., • Ensure consistent adherence to electrical safety practices, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and NFPA 70E standards, during all work activities., • Contribute to the development and refinement of company automation standards and best practices., • Support industrial control system design efforts, including review and use of AutoCAD drawings where applicable., • Respond to callouts as needed to support critical production and automation issues., • Collaborate with leadership on technical direction and long-term automation strategy., • Work hands-on in the field to execute project tasks, troubleshoot systems, and support project execution in fast-paced environments., • Minimum 5+ years of experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting across multiple platforms, including RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, and Studio 5000., • At least 3+ years of experience working with SCADA systems and industrial communication platforms such as FactoryTalk, RSLinx, ControlNet, and DeviceNet., • At least 3+ years of experience with industrial Ethernet networks and CIP-based communication, including Ethernet/IP., • Strong experience with PLC programming, including the ability to program, modify, and debug complex control logic., • Proven HMI and SCADA development experience, including configuration, integration, and troubleshooting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bakersfield, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
