Staff Accountant Job Summary The Forensic Accountant will be responsible for performing accounting, auditing, financial analysis, and investigative services to identify financial discrepancies, assess internal controls, and support the organization in detecting and preventing financial irregularities. This position combines traditional accounting responsibilities with forensic accounting, audit functions, and technology-based financial analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals, excellent analytical and investigative skills, experience conducting audits, and a working knowledge of IT systems, financial software, databases, and data analysis tools. The ability to identify unusual financial activity, trace transactions, analyze large datasets, and communicate findings clearly is essential. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Responsibilities • Perform general accounting functions, including account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and analysis., • Review financial records, transactions, invoices, expense reports, and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness., • Analyze financial statements and identify unusual or inconsistent activity., • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes., • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies., • Maintain accurate and organized financial records in accordance with applicable accounting principles and company policies., • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed. Forensic Accounting & Investigations • Conduct detailed examinations of financial records to identify fraud, financial misconduct, errors, and irregularities., • Trace financial transactions and follow funds through multiple accounts, systems, or entities., • Analyze financial data to identify patterns, anomalies, and potential fraudulent activity., • Investigate suspected financial discrepancies and prepare detailed findings., • Review documentation, contracts, invoices, bank records, payroll records, and other financial evidence., • Assist with internal and external investigations involving financial activity., • Prepare clear and well-supported investigative reports documenting findings and conclusions., • Maintain appropriate documentation and chain of evidence when handling investigative materials., • Provide financial analysis and supporting documentation for legal, regulatory, or management inquiries when necessary. Auditing & Internal Controls • Plan and perform financial and operational audits., • Review accounting processes and internal controls for effectiveness and compliance., • Test transactions, account balances, and supporting documentation., • Identify control weaknesses and recommend corrective actions., • Assist with internal control assessments and risk evaluations., • Review audit findings and assist management with implementing improvements., • Support external auditors by providing requested documentation and financial analysis., • Monitor compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable regulations. IT & Data Analysis Responsibilities • Utilize accounting and financial software to research, analyze, and reconcile financial information., • Analyze large financial datasets using spreadsheets, databases, and other analytical tools., • Use technology to identify unusual transactions, trends, patterns, and discrepancies., • Assist with data extraction, organization, and analysis from accounting and business systems., • Work with IT personnel to obtain and analyze system-generated financial data., • Review electronic records and system activity when relevant to financial investigations., • Maintain an understanding of basic cybersecurity, data security, access controls, and information systems as they relate to financial records., • Utilize tools such as Microsoft Excel, accounting software, databases, and data analytics platforms to support audits and investigations., • Assist in identifying potential system weaknesses that could contribute to financial errors or fraud. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Forensic Accounting, Information Systems, or a related field., • 3+ years of experience in accounting, auditing, forensic accounting, financial analysis, or a related field., • Demonstrated experience performing audits or audit-related functions., • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting., • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills., • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, and financial reporting., • Working knowledge of accounting software and financial systems., • Ability to analyze large amounts of financial information and identify discrepancies or unusual activity., • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills., • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial information appropriately. Preferred Qualifications • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)., • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)., • Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF)., • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)., • Experience with forensic accounting or fraud investigations., • Experience with data analytics, SQL, databases, or financial data extraction., • Experience with ERP or enterprise accounting systems., • Familiarity with cybersecurity, information systems, or IT auditing., • Experience with electronic discovery or digital evidence., • Experience preparing reports for legal proceedings, litigation, or regulatory matters., • Public accounting, internal audit, or Big Four accounting experience.
