Our client is a world leading manufacturer of heavy construction equipment. Due to growth they require Robot Technicians to work from their County Durham facility on a long-term contract basis which may lead to permanent employment. The Role To provide technical expertise, programming and support for all robotic-related activities for the facility. A Robot Technician within the Tooling & Robotics department is responsible for the day-to-day front-line maintenance and programming duties for 20 Robotic weld & paint cells as well as support Robotic related activities, operator support and training. Job Duties Include but not limited to: Provide day-to-day technical support for robotic welding cells (ABB, Cloos, FANUC) Troubleshoot and resolve faults on robotic welding systems, fixtures, and associated equipment Carry out robot programming, touch-ups, and optimisation of weld programs to maintain quality and efficiency Support production operators with technical issues, ensuring minimal downtime Deliver training and guidance to operators on correct use of robotic welding equipment Monitor weld quality and implement continuous improvements to processes and cycle times Assist with routine maintenance and liaise with maintenance teams where required Support and implement process improvements, including tooling and fixture modifications Lead or assist with New Product Introduction (NPI), including program creation, validation, and process setup Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety and quality standards Analyse recurring issues and implement corrective actions to improve reliability Support commissioning of new equipment or upgrades to existing robotic cells Maintain accurate records of changes, programs, and technical documentation Identify and develop improvements to robot programmes to increase OEE performance. This may include cycle time reductions, total weld ratio improvements, robot weld quality improvements, reduction of all losses - weld defects, rework, cycle stoppages, etc. Full ownership of Robot PPM systems. The Person Previous experience as a Robot Operator, Programmer, or Support engineer. Time-served welder, fabricator, or paint technician with experience of heavy fabrications, robotic paint plant processes, MIG welding experience, or relative experience in a heavy fabrication environment. Strong problem-solving capabilities. Strong communication skills. A willingness to travel both abroad and within the UK for training and new robot cell introduction (if / when required) Must be self-motivated, flexible (able to work across 3 shifts) and able to work in a team environment. Experience in the below would be ideal: ABB Programming (Rapid code) Cloos Programming (Carola code) Fanuc Programming (Karel code) Offline programming (Robo guide, Robot studio, Robo plan) Reteaching of robotic welds Parameter development of robot welds (single torch & twin torch)
