Job Summary: \n The Tunnel / Underground Works Superintendent will support the planning and delivery of tunnel and underground construction works across major Heavy Civil infrastructure projects, providing technical and construction input from proposal through to execution and closeout. \n Working with multidisciplinary teams, the role helps develop construction strategies, execution plans, risk assessments, and practical delivery solutions for underground works. \n Based in London, the role supports Bechtel’s global Heavy Civil portfolio and may require international travel or temporary site assignments. \n The role reports to project or tunnelling leadership, depending on assignment. \n \n Major Responsibilities: \n\n • Develop and support construction strategies, execution plans, estimates, schedules, methodologies, and risk assessments for tunnel and underground works.\n, • Support safe delivery of underground works in line with project requirements, contracts, and Bechtel standards.\n, • Coordinate with engineering and project teams to improve constructability, readiness, interfaces, and delivery planning.\n, • Review contractor plans, method statements, schedules, and work packages.\n, • Monitor progress against safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives, identifying risks and recommending mitigations.\n, • Resolve technical and operational issues affecting tunnel and underground construction activities.\n, • Support reporting, lessons learned, best practice sharing, and Bechtel’s ES&H and Zero Accident principles.\n, • Travel to project sites as required to support planning, execution, reviews, and key milestones.\n\n \n Education and Experience Requirements: \n\n • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.\n, • Typically requires ibn-depth experience of tunnelling, underground works, heavy civil, mining, transportation, hydropower, or major infrastructure projects.\n, • Experience supporting or leading tunnel and underground construction scopes on complex projects.\n\n \n Required Knowledge and Skills: \n\n • Practical knowledge of tunnel and underground construction, including excavation, ground support, lining works, shafts, sequencing, and risk management.\n, • Ability to work across engineering, procurement, project controls, quality, safety, construction, contractors, and subcontractors.\n, • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.\n, • Experience in international, joint venture, or multicultural project environments is desirable.\n, • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and common project management tools.\n, • Commitment to ES&H principles and Bechtel’s Zero Accident philosophy.\n\n
