He receives daily specialist physiotherapy to maximise his remaining function, and we are seeking someone who shares his determination and approach to care. About the Client & His Condition The client lives with an incomplete spinal cord injury at C4/C5 level, which has resulted in: • Paralysis affecting both arms, legs and torso, • Complete loss of bowel and bladder control, • Retained movement of the head, neck and shoulders, • Very limited mobility below the shoulders Despite these challenges, he remains positive, motivated and fully engaged with his rehabilitation programme. He values his dignity, privacy and autonomy, and expects care to be delivered with respect, patience and professionalism at all times The Role & Key Responsibilities Clinical Care & Health Monitoring • Assessing, monitoring and recording the client’s physical health, including vital signs, skin condition, limb circulation, pain levels and respiratory function, • Safe management of bowel and bladder care, including catheter care, bowel regimes and maintaining continence plans in line with clinical guidelines, • Administering medication as prescribed, keeping accurate records and reporting any side effects or concerns immediately, • Managing pressure area care, repositioning and use of specialist equipment to prevent pressure ulcers and maintain tissue viability, • Recognising any changes in health status and escalating concerns promptly to the client’s GP, specialist team or family as required, • Following all clinical protocols, infection control procedures and safety guidelines Daily Living & Mobility Support • Assisting with all aspects of personal care: washing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene and toileting, preserving dignity at every stage, • Supporting with nutrition, hydration and feeding, ensuring dietary requirements are met and monitoring intake, • Assisting with transfers, positioning and use of mobility aids, using correct moving and handling techniques and hoist equipment, • Supporting the client with household tasks relevant to his care needs, and helping him maintain a comfortable, safe living environment Rehabilitation & Recovery Support • Attending and actively supporting daily physiotherapy sessions, following the physiotherapist’s instructions and reinforcing exercises and techniques between appointments, • Encouraging and supporting the client to maximise use of his retained muscle function, • Keeping accurate records of progress, observations and any adjustments to care or therapy plans, • Working closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team – physiotherapists, occupational therapists, doctors and family members – to ensure consistent, joined-up care Communication & Administration • Building open, trusting and respectful relationships with the client and close associates, • Maintaining clear, accurate and up-to-date care records, handover notes and medication logs, • Communicating effectively with all professionals involved in the client’s care, • Promoting the client’s independence and emotional wellbeing, and supporting him socially and practically where needed Candidate Requirements - Essential Criteria • Valid current Nursing registration, • Ideally but not essential, experience of spinal cord injury, complex neurological conditions or long-term disability care; specific training available if required., • Sound knowledge of continence management, pressure care, moving and handling, and medication administration, • Ability to work autonomously and also as part of a wider team, • Excellent observation, communication and documentation skills, • Empathetic, calm and professional manner, with a strong focus on dignity and person-centred care, • Right to work in the UK, • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide at least two professional references Desirable Criteria • Knowledge of specialist equipment such as hoists, pressure-relieving mattresses and aids for daily living Working Hours & Location • Hours: Full-time – 12 hour shifts, worked on a structured rota including some weekends and evenings, • Location: Battersea, London SW11 – well-served by public transport links from central London and surrounding areas, • Start date: Immediate start available for the right candidate How to Apply If you are a compassionate, reliable nurse who is looking for a meaningful, long-term role and would like to be part of this client’s recovery journey, please apply with:
