System Safety Design Engineer \n \n Main Responsibilities \n\n • Support system safety activities across major rail infrastructure projects.\n, • Undertake hazard identification and risk assessment activities.\n, • Develop and maintain Hazard Records and associated safety documentation.\n, • Support the preparation and delivery of Safety Cases and Safety Justifications.\n, • Carry out safety assessments including FTA, FMEA and Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA).\n, • Work closely with design, systems, engineering and assurance teams to ensure safety requirements are embedded throughout the project lifecycle.\n, • Support compliance with applicable railway safety standards and project safety management plans.\n, • Participate in safety reviews, audits and assurance activities.\n, • Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis where required.\n, • Produce technical reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.\n\n \n Candidate Requirements \n\n • Degree qualified Engineer or equivalent technical qualification.\n, • Knowledge of UK railway standards and safety management processes.\n, • Experience in a Systems Safety, Safety Assurance, Functional Safety or RAMS Engineering role.\n, • Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment and safety assurance processes.\n, • Experience developing or contributing to Safety Cases.\n, • Working knowledge of FTA, FMEA and PHA methodologies.\n, • Experience within rail, transportation, infrastructure or other highly regulated engineering environments.\n, • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.\n, • Strong technical writing and stakeholder communication skills.\n, • Membership of a relevant professional body would be advantageous.\n\n \n Desirable Experience \n\n • High-speed rail experience (HS2)\n, • Experience working on complex infrastructure or transportation projects.\n, • Experience supporting design assurance and systems integration activities.\n\n
