Junior Maintenance Technician – Training Position \n Location: Travel between sites will be required. (Oxford, Harwell, Abingdon) \n \n We are looking for a motivated person to join Facilities Team based around \n central Oxfordshire. This is an excellent entry level opportunity for someone who wants to start a \n career in building maintenance, facilities operations, or engineering. \n \n You don’t need years of experience — just a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a genuine \n interest in hands on work. We will provide full training and support to help you develop your skills. \n \n About the Role \n As a Junior Maintenance Technician, you will work alongside experienced team members to help \n keep our buildings running smoothly and safely. You’ll be trained in a wide range of tasks, from basic repairs to planned safety checks. \n \n With training and supervision, you will: \n • Carry out basic building repairs and general maintenance. \n • Support routine inspections and testing, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, \n and other safety equipment. \n • Help complete logbooks, forms, and electronic records. \n • Assist with the induction and supervision of external contractors. \n • Respond to general helpdesk requests such as meeting room setups or moving \n furniture. \n • Assist with small projects, including office/lab moves and refurbishments. \n • Take part in an out of hours on call rota once fully trained \n \n Essential qualities: \n • A genuine interest in maintenance, engineering, or practical hands on work. \n • Good problem solving instincts and a willingness to learn from experienced \n colleagues. \n • Confidence using hand tools (or a desire to learn). \n • Able to carry out manual handling, such as moving equipment or furniture. \n • Good communication skills and a friendly, respectful approach with colleagues and \n contractors. \n • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently once trained. \n • Basic literacy and numeracy skills. \n • A full driving license (or working toward one). \n \n Desirable (but not required — full training given): \n • Any experience helping with DIY, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or building tasks. \n • Experience in a facilities or maintenance environment. \n • Basic understanding of planned preventative maintenance. \n • Knowledge of health & safety, risk assessments, or permits to work. \n • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook especially). \n • Experience in a lab or scientific workplace. \n • Full clean driving license \n • Own vehicle \n \n Working Hours \n 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, between 08:00 and 17:00 (1 hour lunch). \n Overtime and callout work will occasionally be required once fully trained. \n Travel between sites is expected.
