We are sourcing a HSE Advisor on a full time, permanent basis. Based at our facility in Westhill, Aberdeen, the HSE Advisor provides competent Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) advice and operational support to the Aberdeen business, working closely with site management, operational teams and project personnel to promote safe working practices, manage operational risk and ensure compliance with legal, client and company requirements. The role is responsible for supporting the effective implementation of the Claxton Integrated Management System (IMS), working with line management to identify hazards, reduce risks to ALARP through the application of the hierarchy of control, and drive continual improvement in HSE performance and culture. Reporting to the QHSE Manager, the HSE Advisor works collaboratively with operational teams to deliver HSE objectives, provide professional guidance and contribute to the continual development of the company's HSE management system. The HSE Advisor acts as a trusted advisor to line management, providing pragmatic guidance, constructively challenging unsafe practices where necessary, and promoting a positive HSE culture across the business Duties & Main Responsibilities Operational HSE Support •Provide day-to-day HSE support to site management, operations, and projects. •Support the site leadership team in effectively managing risks from physical, chemical, biological and psychosocial hazards. •Engage with all levels of site organisation to promote safe working and strengthen site safety culture. •Develop, review, and facilitate risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work and other HSE documentation with operational teams. •Monitor the implementation of safe systems of work, ensuring control measures are applied effectively. Monitoring and Compliance •Conduct regular HSE inspections and monitoring of site operational activities. •Monitor compliance with safe systems of work, behavioural safety, and compliance with Site Rules. •Monitor contractor and visitor activities to ensure site HSE requirements are followed. •Plan and conduct internal HSE audits, communicate findings to management and monitor corrective actions through to closure. Incident Investigation and Learning •Lead investigations into routine incidents, near misses and observations, applying recognised root cause analysis techniques and ensuring corrective actions are implemented. •Support the QHSE Manager in investigations involving high-potential or serious incidents. •Support the capture of lessons learned and improvement actions to prevent recurrence. HSE Meetings and Engagement •Participate in site operational and project meetings to provide HSE input and guidance. •Facilitate the monthly site QHSE meeting, ensuring HSE performance and improvement actions are communicated across the workforce. •Maintain regular engagement with supervisors and teams to reinforce HSE expectations. HSE Compliance and Assurance •Support the QHSE Manager in maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards, as well as supporting the delivery of improvements highlighted on the QHSE Plan. •Assist in closing any gaps highlighted in the site Regulatory Compliance Register and Risk Register. •Support client and regulatory audits, providing HSE input where required. •Proactively engage with other Claxton sites to promote good practice and share learnings. Training and Awareness •Deliver site HSE inductions for new employees and visitors. •Deliver or support HSE training and awareness activities where required. Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Monitoring •Assist in coordinating site emergency response drills and exercises. •Ensure periodic checks of fire safety, first aid and environmental response equipment are completed. •Monitor environmental controls and report any issues or non-compliances. Required •NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum essential). NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 HSE qualification) desirable. •Internal Auditor (ISO 45001 etc.) Lead Auditor desirable. •Experience working in industrial, engineering, or oil & gas environments. •Good understanding of UK HSE legislation, recognised industry guidance, and safe systems of work. •Experience conducting workplace inspections, compliance audits, and HSE assurance activities. •Experience leading or supporting incident investigations using recognised Root Cause Analysis techniques (i.e. TapRooT, 5-Why, Top-Set, or equivalent). •Ability to analyse HSE performance, identify trends and recommend improvement opportunities. •Ability to engage with managers, supervisors, and the workforce to influence safe behaviours and promote a positive HSE culture. •Strong communication skills and confidence to challenge unsafe practices and behaviours constructively. •Practical, risk-based approach to problem-solving and continual improvement. •Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment. •Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of the wider QHSE team.
