Job summaryConsultant Medical Oncologist - UGI & HPBAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Medical Oncologists to join our friendly, forward-looking team of over twenty consultant oncologists at the UHT Cancer Institute caring for patients in Teesside, North Yorkshire and County Durham. The post will have a specialist focus on UGI and HPB.South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust warmly welcomes applications for these two 10 PA posts to join the team. Candidates who do not wish to work full time for personal reasons will be considered for the post and example timetables for less than full time working are given in the job description.This is a new post created to support an expanding service and the semi-retirement plans of existing consultants, so you will be joining existing, experienced teams.Successful applicants will work alongside enthusiastic, dynamic, research active teams who have a track record of innovation and technical developments.Main duties of the jobRESPONSIBILITIESMaintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of Medical OncologyClinical/ on-call responsibilitiesUndertake any responsibility which relates to the agreed special interests.Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.Be actively involved in the management of the department including attendance at monthly Directorate/Consultant meetings.Take part in annual appraisals (mandatory for all Consultants). Appropriate time and assistance will be provided for preparation.Active involvement in audit and quality improvement.Involvement in research.Continuing professional development.Any other duties which may be required.Contribute to the on-call system rota.About usThis is a new post created to support an expanding service and the semi-retirement plans of existing consultants. The post is full time, comprising initially of 10 PAs in total, but candidates who do not wish to work full time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post. There will also be opportunity to discuss additional paid responsibilities at the successful candidate's request. The site specialist focus of the post will be for the application of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) for upper gastrointestinal (UGI) and hepatobiliary (HPB) cancers, and melanoma.The successful applicant will join the existing and well-established teams based in the UHT Cancer Institute at the James Cook University Hospital (JCUH). The post-holder will manage UGI/HPB cancers at South Tees working with Dr Wadd, Dr Wilson, Dr Kishore Kumar and Dr Yogalingam. The post will include attendance at weekly MDTs, clinics to see new, SACT review and follow-up patients, as well as clinical administration sessions for SACT prescribing and correspondence. Research is important to the department and the post-holder will be expected to work with the clinical research team to optimise trial recruitment.
