CNC Miller - Programmer Setter Operator Southall, Middlesex | Up to £25 per hour / £52,000 basic + overtime An established precision engineering business specialising in the manufacture of high-quality, complex machined components for the aerospace and associated high-technology sectors is looking to recruit an experienced CNC Miller Programmer / Setter. Operating from a clean, modern and well-invested CNC manufacturing facility in Southall, the business has an excellent reputation for precision machining, with particular expertise in 3, 4 and complex 5-axis CNC milling. The milling department operates a range of modern Mazak CNC machining centres, including i-600, J-500, 530, 430 and 410 machines, providing an excellent working environment for an experienced CNC Miller who enjoys technically challenging, high-precision work. Both online and offline CNC programming capabilities are available, enabling engineers to develop, prove and optimise machining processes at the machine and through dedicated CAD/CAM facilities. The Role We are looking for an experienced CNC Miller Programmer / Setter capable of taking responsibility for complex precision-machined components from initial planning and programming through to successful manufacture. Key responsibilities will include: • Programming, setting and operating 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machining centres, • Working with a modern range of Mazak CNC milling machines, including i-600, J-500, 530, 430 and 410, • Mazak programming and machining experience is highly preferable, although experienced CNC Millers with strong multi-axis skills on other modern machining platforms will also be considered, • Online programming at the machine, together with the ability to work effectively with offline CAD/CAM programming, • Previous experience with VISI and/or hyperMILL CAD/CAM would be a distinct advantage, although this is not essential for an otherwise strong candidate, • Manufacturing high-precision components for the aerospace sector, including critical in-flight and non-flight applications, • Machining a varied material mix of approximately 60% aluminium and 40% steels, • Planning machining strategies, tooling, workholding and efficient manufacturing methods, • Designing and manufacturing fixtures for new and existing components, • Supporting New Part Introduction (NPI) and developing robust manufacturing processes before components reach production, • Producing clear setting documentation, process drawings and key-feature checklists, • Proving out new programs and machining processes to ensure they are safe, reliable, repeatable and efficient, • Working to the high levels of quality, accuracy and traceability required within aerospace manufacturing The Person We are particularly interested in experienced CNC Millers with a strong programming and process-development mindset, rather than candidates whose experience is primarily limited to machine operation. Ideally, you will have: • Strong CNC milling programming and setting experience, • Experience with 3, 4 and ideally 5-axis machining, • Mazak experience – highly preferable, • Experience programming online at the machine and/or offline using CAD/CAM, • VISI and/or hyperMILL CAD/CAM experience – advantageous, • Experience producing complex, close-tolerance precision components, • A background in aerospace, defence, motorsport or another high-precision engineering environment, • A good understanding of tooling, cutting strategies, workholding and fixture design, • The ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and critical component features, • Experience proving out new jobs and contributing to New Part Introduction, • A methodical approach to developing efficient, reliable and repeatable machining processes The Environment This is an opportunity to join a genuine precision engineering business rather than simply a production machine shop. The company operates a modern CNC machining facility with advanced multi-axis equipment and both online and offline programming capabilities. This allows experienced programmers to be involved in the complete manufacturing process – from CAD/CAM and process planning through to setting, proving and optimisation at the machine. For a skilled CNC Miller, the position offers the opportunity to work with modern Mazak machinery, sophisticated multi-axis machining, CAD/CAM programming and challenging precision aerospace components within a professional and well-equipped engineering environment. Hours & Benefits • 40-hour standard working week, • Up to £25 per hour / £52,000 basic salary, • All hours worked over 40 hours per week paid at 1.333x, • 24 days' paid holiday, • All National/Bank Holidays paid, • Pension scheme
