Duration: Ongoing Hours: Shift-based (including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins/waking nights as required Full job description We are looking for a Support Worker who will provide high-quality, child-centred care and support to children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) living in a residential setting. The role focuses on safeguarding, promoting emotional wellbeing, supporting positive behaviour, and helping children achieve stability, independence, and positive outcomes Responsibilities: • Provide safe, nurturing, and consistent care in line with each child’s care plan and risk assessments., • Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people., • Support children with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and daily routines using positive and trauma-informed approaches., • Promote independence, confidence, life skills, and positive outcomes., • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children at all times., • Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and follow relevant procedures, including Missing from Care, CSE/CCE, and behaviour management protocols., • Use appropriate de-escalation and positive behaviour support techniques when managing challenging behaviour., • Support with personal care where required, while maintaining dignity and respect., • Encourage participation in education, hobbies, training, and community activities., • Assist with meal preparation, household tasks, and maintaining a safe, homely environment., • Complete accurate daily records, incident reports, handover notes, and other required documentation., • Communicate effectively with colleagues, managers, social workers, and other professionals., • Support medication administration where trained and authorised., • Participate in fire drills, emergency procedures, health and safety checks, and risk assessments., • Act as a Key Worker for designated children when required, supporting care planning, goal setting, and advocacy. Requirements: • At least 6 months' recent experience working with children or young people, particularly those with EBD, trauma, challenging behaviour, or complex needs., • Strong understanding of safeguarding and a genuine commitment to promoting children’s welfare., • Ability to remain calm, patient, resilient, and professional when working under pressure., • Good written and verbal communication skills., • Willingness to work shift-based hours, including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins and/or waking nights as required., • Enhanced DBS with Children’s Barred List – required., • Experience in a residential children’s home is desirable., • NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Children and Young People, or willingness to work towards it, is desirable., • Training or experience in trauma-informed care, de-escalation, or Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is advantageous., • Knowledge of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 is desirable.
