Interim Director of Adult Social Services Location: West Midlands / Hybrid Duration: 6 months initially, with potential for extension Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week Working pattern: 5 days per week, with approximately 2–3 days in the office Rate: £900–£975 per day Umbrella, depending on experience IR35: Inside IR35 We are seeking an experienced Interim Director of Adult Social Services to provide strategic and operational leadership across a large local authority's Adult Social Care services. This is a senior interim leadership position requiring an individual with substantial experience at Director, DASS, Deputy Director or Assistant Director level within Adult Social Care. The successful candidate will lead a broad portfolio of services, ensuring high-quality, person-centred provision while maintaining strong statutory compliance, financial control, performance and safeguarding arrangements. Key responsibilities • Provide strategic leadership for the Council's Adult Social Care service and transformation agenda., • Ensure delivery of high-quality, person-centred services that promote independence and improved outcomes for residents., • Provide senior oversight of Adult Safeguarding, DoLS, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Social Work, Hospital Interface, Reablement, Day Services, Internal Provider Services and Quality Assurance., • Ensure compliance with the Care Act 2014 and all relevant statutory, regulatory and safeguarding requirements., • Drive service improvement, transformation, innovation and preventative approaches., • Lead and strengthen partnerships with health organisations, local authorities, elected members, providers and other key stakeholders., • Provide leadership across Adult Social Care commissioning and support the development of a sustainable local care market., • Maintain strong financial and performance management, ensuring effective use of resources and delivery of agreed savings and improvement plans., • Promote integrated working across health and social care., • Provide visible, confident leadership to senior managers and wider service teams., • Work closely with corporate leadership and elected members on strategic Adult Social Care priorities. About you • You will be an experienced senior Adult Social Care leader with a strong track record within a local authority environment., • We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:, • Previous experience as a DASS, Director of Adult Social Care/Services, Deputy Director or Assistant Director., • Significant experience leading complex Adult Social Care services., • Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, adult safeguarding and statutory responsibilities., • Experience of service transformation, improvement and performance management., • Strong commissioning and care-market knowledge., • Experience working across health and social care integration., • Strong financial and budget management experience., • Excellent senior stakeholder management skills, including working with elected members., • The ability to provide confident leadership in a complex and politically sensitive environment., • Previous interim/local authority experience would be highly advantageous.
