Senior Architect (ARB Registered)\n North London | Office Based | EMI Consulting \n Take ownership of projects from concept to construction.\n EMI Consulting is growing, and we are looking for an experienced ARB-registered Senior Architect to join our multidisciplinary North London practice. \n This is a hands-on senior project-delivery position for an Architect who combines strong design judgement with excellent technical knowledge and can confidently take responsibility for projects from feasibility and planning through Building Regulations, detailed technical design and construction. \n We are not looking for someone who has only supported larger project teams. \n We want an Architect who can lead projects, make sound technical decisions, coordinate other disciplines, communicate confidently with clients and Building Control, and deliver accurate, buildable information with limited supervision. \n Our workload is varied and includes: \n\n • Residential extensions and refurbishments\n, • Loft conversions\n, • HMO conversions and internal reconfigurations\n, • Complex structural alterations\n, • Commercial properties\n, • Mixed-use developments\n, • New-build projects\n, • Planning and Building Regulations applications\n, • Technical and construction-stage design\n\n If you understand both architectural design and how buildings actually go together, we would like to hear from you. The Role\n You will take ownership of your own project portfolio while helping maintain and develop the architectural and technical standards of the practice. Project Leadership\n You will: \n\n • Lead projects from initial client brief and feasibility through planning, Building Regulations, technical design and construction.\n, • Develop practical architectural solutions balancing design quality, planning requirements, Building Regulations, buildability and commercial considerations.\n, • Prepare and manage planning and Building Regulations submissions.\n, • Establish project priorities, programmes and deliverables.\n, • Coordinate clients, structural engineers, consultants, Building Control, contractors and other stakeholders.\n, • Identify design, regulatory and technical risks at an early stage and drive them through to resolution.\n, • Manage multiple live projects while maintaining drawing quality, technical accuracy and deadlines.\n, • Take responsibility for progressing projects without continual supervision. \nTechnical Design & AutoCAD\n AutoCAD is EMI's principal architectural drawing platform and advanced professional capability is essential for this role. \n You will: \n\n • Lead the production of accurate and technically robust architectural drawing packages using AutoCAD.\n, • Produce and review plans, sections, elevations, construction details and technical information.\n, • Prepare comprehensive Building Regulations and technical drawing packages.\n, • Coordinate architectural information directly with structural engineering designs and calculations.\n, • Develop practical construction details appropriate to existing and new buildings.\n, • Review construction methods, materials, interfaces and buildability.\n, • Check architectural drawings and technical documentation before issue.\n, • Ensure information leaving the practice is accurate, coordinated, compliant and professionally presented. \nBuilding Regulations & Technical Compliance\n You will: \n\n • Apply strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations and relevant construction requirements.\n, • Prepare and manage Building Regulations submissions.\n, • Deal directly and confidently with Building Control.\n, • Respond to technical comments, queries and requests for further information.\n, • Understand the implications of structural alterations within architectural proposals.\n, • Coordinate structural beams, columns, foundations, openings and other structural elements into architectural designs.\n, • Keep technical information coordinated throughout project development. \nClient & Construction Delivery\n You will: \n\n • Lead client discussions, design reviews and technical meetings.\n, • Explain design, regulatory and construction matters clearly to clients.\n, • Attend site inspections and project meetings.\n, • Liaise directly with contractors during pre-construction and construction.\n, • Resolve architectural and technical issues arising on site.\n, • Build strong professional relationships with clients, consultants and contractors.\n, • Support repeat business by providing a consistently professional service. \nTeam & Practice Development\n As a senior member of the team, you will also: \n\n • Review and guide the work of Part I and Part II Architectural Assistants and developing team members.\n, • Check drawings and technical information produced by others.\n, • Maintain high architectural, technical and documentation standards.\n, • Share technical knowledge and mentor less experienced staff.\n, • Work closely with EMI's structural engineering team.\n, • Contribute to improving internal systems, drawing standards, project workflows and quality control. \nAbout YouEssential Requirements\n To be considered, you should have: \n ✔ Current Architects Registration Board (ARB) registration. \n ✔ Strong, demonstrable UK architectural practice experience appropriate to a senior-level position. \n ✔ Typically 5+ years of relevant UK architectural practice experience, with evidence of increasing project responsibility. \n ✔ Proven experience personally leading and delivering architectural projects. \n ✔ Strong experience with UK residential projects including extensions, loft conversions, refurbishments, structural alterations and property conversions. \n ✔ Experience delivering projects through planning, Building Regulations and detailed technical design stages. \n ✔ Advanced professional AutoCAD capability. \n ✔ Excellent technical drawing and construction-detailing ability. \n ✔ Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and planning processes. \n ✔ Experience preparing comprehensive Building Regulations and technical drawing packages. \n ✔ Experience dealing directly with Building Control. \n ✔ Strong understanding of typical UK construction methods and buildability. \n ✔ Ability to interpret and coordinate structural engineering information. \n ✔ Experience coordinating architects, structural engineers, consultants and contractors. \n ✔ Ability to identify and resolve technical design issues. \n ✔ Strong project-management and organisational capability. \n ✔ Experience managing multiple live projects simultaneously. \n ✔ Strong written and verbal client communication. \n ✔ Ability to make sound professional and technical decisions without continual supervision. Highly Desirable\n We would particularly welcome candidates with: \n\n • RIBA Chartered Membership.\n, • HMO and complex residential-conversion experience.\n, • Commercial and mixed-use project experience.\n, • Experience within a multidisciplinary architecture and structural-engineering consultancy.\n, • Strong understanding of current Building Regulations designer responsibilities.\n, • Experience mentoring or supervising architectural staff.\n, • Experience reviewing and checking technical drawings produced by others.\n, • Experience developing architectural standards, technical processes or practice procedures.\n, • Strong commercial awareness and confidence dealing directly with clients. \nOur Systems\n AutoCAD is our principal architectural design and drawing platform. \n We also use monday.com to support project management, workload visibility and internal workflow. \n Previous monday.com experience is not required. We are more interested in candidates who are organised, accountable and comfortable working within structured digital project-management systems.
