The family is particularly interested in someone who: · Has a strong understanding of Parkinson’s disease and its progression. · Has experience with mobility assistance, fall awareness, transfers, and wheelchair support. · Understands the importance of exercise and physical therapy for an individual living with Parkinson’s. · Is physically capable of providing appropriate assistance when necessary. · Is observant without being intrusive. · Is patient and encouraging without being patronizing. · Can anticipate needs while continuing to respect the principal’s independence. · Has excellent judgment and understands when circumstances require additional medical or family involvement. · Is comfortable preparing meals. · Is an experienced and confident driver with a clean driving record. · Is comfortable traveling and spending extended periods in St. Martin. · Is highly flexible regarding schedule and changing needs. · Understands discretion and privacy within a private household. · Has a calm, steady personality and does not bring unnecessary energy or drama into the home. Experience Candidates should have substantial experience providing private, one-on-one care, preferably within a private household. Direct experience working with Parkinson’s disease is strongly preferred and may include experience with: · Parkinson’s-related mobility challenges · Gait and balance issues · Exercise and physical-therapy programs · Transfers and wheelchair assistance · Activities of daily living · Changes in energy and physical ability throughout the day · Medication schedules and the importance of timing, without independently administering or changing medication unless appropriately licensed and authorized · Coordinating with physicians, therapists, nurses, and family members A nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, CNA, HHA, or other healthcare background may be valuable, but the quality of the candidate’s direct Parkinson’s experience, judgment, personality, and ability to work successfully within a private household will be equally important. Travel The position requires regular travel between Oyster Bay, New York and St. Martin. The Personal Care Professional must be comfortable relocating with the principal for extended periods and maintaining continuity in his routine, exercise, mobility support, meals, appointments, and daily care while away from New York. The Environment Private live-in accommodations will be provided in both locations. The objective is to help the principal continue living his life with as much independence, dignity, activity, and normalcy as possible while having an experienced professional nearby when assistance is needed. Compensation: $130,000–$150,000+, depending upon experience and qualifications, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate with significant Parkinson’s experience.
