Job Description Riddle Village Activities Aide Purpose of your Job Position The primary purpose of your job position is to assist the Activities Supervisor and Personal Care Administrator planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of the Monticello Activity Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, Riddle Village established policies and procedures and as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that an on-going program of activities is designed to meet in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident. Delegation Of Authority As an Activities Assistant, you are delegated the authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the activity programs of this facility., 2. Assist in the development, administration and coordinating of department policies and procedures., 3. Keep abreast of current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to the Director of Wellness Services and /or Administrator., 4. Review department policies and procedures, annually and participate in making recommended changes., 5. Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the identification of medically related activity needs of the resident (i.e. Use of adaptive devices), 6. Participate in community planning related to the interests of the facility and the services and needs of the resident and family. • Participate in discharge planning; development and implementation of activity care plans and resident assessments. Page Break 1. Interview resident/families as necessary and in a private setting., 2. Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports etc. and submitting them to the Director of Wellness Services as required., 3. Involve the resident/family in planning the activity program., 4. Refer family/resident to appropriate social service personnel., 5. Provide consultation to members of the staff to enhance the activity experience for the resident, through problem solving and developing a program specific to that resident. Authority. Responsibility and Accountability of Activities Assistant 1. Maintain a productive working relationship with the medical profession and other health related facilities and organization., 2. Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary., 3. Work with the facilities consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required..., 4. Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Wellness Services concerning the operation of the Activities Department., 5. Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished., 6. Interpret the department's policies and procedures to employees, residents, visitors, government agencies, etc., 7. Keep abreast of economic conditions/situations and recommend to the Activities Coordinator adjustments in activity programs that assure the continued ability to provide daily activities., 8. Assist the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying, evaluating and classifying routine and job related activity functions to ensure that tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids are properly identified and recorded., 9. Assist Quality Assurance Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies., 10. Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining an ongoing quality assurance program for the activity department., 11. Participate in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies., 12. Ensure that all charted activity progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and of the resident's response to the service., 13. Assist in maintaining a reference library of written material, laws, etc. necessary for complying with current standards and regulations and that will provide assistance in maintaining a quality activity program., 14. Involve the resident/family in planning objectives and goals for the resident., 15. Meet with activity personnel on a regularly scheduled basis concerning the operation of the department, assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and /or improvement of services. 1. Develop a comprehensive assessment of the activities need of each resident., 2. Develop a written plan of care., 3. Encourage resident and family to participate in the development and review of the care plan., 4. Ensure that all activity personnel are aware of the care plan and that care plans are used in identifying activities for residents., 5. Review and revise care plans as necessary., 6. Develop and maintain a good rapport with all services involved with patient care to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing a comprehensive plan of care., 7. Forecast needs of the department., 8. Assist in planning and preparing the activity department's budget for food, equipment, supplies and labor and submit to the Activities Coordinator for review, recommendations and approval., 9. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information., 10. Knock before entering a resident's room., 11. Ensure that all activity personnel are knowledgeable of the resident's rights and responsibilities, including the right of refusal., 12. Assist in scheduling movies, planning parties, and providing games/activities for the residents., 13. Encourage residents to participate in activities, provide materials as necessary. Personnel Functions 1. Assist in standardizing the method in which activities will be performed and /or administered., 2. Maintain an excellent working relationship with other departments., 3. Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious material and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures governing incidents and accidents., 4. Ensure that department work areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary and safe manner., 5. Ensure that activity personnel follow established infection control procedures when isolation precautions become necessary., 6. Recommend to the Activities Coordinator the equipment and supply needs of the activities department., 7. Make necessary rounds to check equipment and to assure that needed activities supplies are available and in good working order., 8. Ensure that all personnel operate activities equipment in a safe manner., 9. Develop and implement procedures that ensure activity supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste., 10. Ensure that appropriate cleaning supplies are available to perform necessary departmental cleaning functions., 11. Check supply room to assure that needed activity supplies are on hand to conduct scheduled activities. Job Requirements • Must have graduated high school/GED equivalent, • Experience preferred but not required, • CTRS Degree and/or ADC certification preferred but not required, • Must be able to follow oral and written instruction, • Must display excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills, • Must be able to speak in a public setting, • Must be sociable and outgoing, • Must be interested in working with senior citizens, • Must be able to use computer and knowledgeable of Microsoft Office, • Must be flexible with filling in for call outs and other shift vacancies, • Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently
