    SCOPE OF ROLE: The Employment Specialist will conduct assessment interviews to gather information relative to client’s skills, education and interests. He /she will Design and facilitate vocational/employment group and maintain an active employment vocational/educational data bank and serve as Program Representative at Workforce and Employment Initiatives and Meetings. The specialist will identify barriers to employment e.g.-ESL, Substance Abuse, Mental Health and in collaboration with Case Manager make appropriate referrals. Provide career coaching and assist with resume preparation, job search and filing applications. II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES · Allocates competitive employment positions in the community. · Provides hands on job training to consumers at job sites. · Maintains on-going liaison with job sites. · Keeps abreast of consumer’s employment progress in a timely and efficient manner. · Maintains updated information and progress notes in consumer case records · Assists consumers with job readiness and search activities. · Co-facilitates weekly Work Readiness Seminar. · Provides direct counseling and on-going assessments as needed. · Represents the agency to the community at large and participates in professional meetings. · Reports all relevant information to supervisor and program staff. · Interprets relevant information to resolve problems, effectively balances considerations and alternatives to make sound decisions. · Handles unexpected situations by responding effectively to challenges, deadlines and emergencies. · Provides timely, accurate and clear documentation according to established policies and procedures. · Applies time management skills to work effectively within given deadlines, carries out directives, organizes own time and prioritizes workload effectively while using resources wisely. · Willingness to initiate new ideas, consistently looks for better ways of doing things. · Demonstrates effective verbal, written, and listening skills. · Works well as part of a team. · Can be relied upon to be available as needed, modeling good attendance and punctuality practices. · Responds to consumer needs promptly, accurately and with courtesy and respect, models appropriate behavior, represents the organization in a positive and appropriate manner to outside resources. · Supports the missions and values of SUS and draws attention to behavior that undermines group effectiveness or is inconsistent with core values. · Maintains confidentiality of consumers and staff. · Maintains positive enthusiasm toward job accountabilities and objectives, persists with extra effort and overcomes obstacles to get the job done. · All other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE · High School Diploma/GED Required, bachelor’s degree preferred. · Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to assist adults of diverse ethnicities, backgrounds, ages, and sexual preferences. · Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. · Evening hours are required.
