Job Description Hiring for Mechanic - Level 1 Weekly pay Job Description This entry-level Service Level Mechanic I position focuses on performing preventive maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, and basic repairs on a wide range of rental equipment and tools used for home projects and renovations. You will work under the guidance of a mechanic-turned-service manager, learning company standards while helping ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for customers. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with customer-facing support in a fast-paced rental environment. Responsibilities • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on rental equipment to minimize downtime and ensure safe, reliable operation., • Clean, inspect, and prepare equipment and tools so they are rental-ready, including pressure washing and detailing as needed., • Assist with troubleshooting and basic repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel-powered equipment., • Support cycle counts and inventory-related tasks on the shop floor to help maintain accurate equipment and parts records., • Conduct oil changes, brake pad changes, battery changes, and other routine service tasks on a variety of rental tools and machines., • Diagnose and address issues related to hydraulic systems using troubleshooting fundamentals and established procedures., • Troubleshoot electrical systems up to 240 volts, including batteries and basic rewiring tasks, under supervision as needed., • Communicate with homeowners and other customers renting tools, providing patient, clear, and courteous customer service., • Follow safety procedures and company standards to perform all work in the safest, most effective manner possible., • Adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment, assisting wherever needed on the shop floor., • Ensure equipment is properly staged, cleaned, and prepped before it is rented again, contributing to a professional and organized shop., • Collaborate with technicians and leadership to learn best practices and continuously improve technical skills. Essential Skills • High school diploma or GED required., • 1 to 3 years of technician experience with diesel equipment, heavy construction equipment, or specialty lines equipment (such as large-scale generators, pumps, HVAC, or oil and gas equipment) strongly preferred., • Basic mechanical aptitude with experience performing oil changes, mechanical repairs, and routine service tasks., • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems and troubleshooting fundamentals., • Working knowledge of electrical systems up to 240 volts, including troubleshooting batteries and basic rewiring., • Ability to perform battery changes, brake pad changes, and basic diesel troubleshooting., • Customer service skills with the patience to work effectively with homeowners and other customers renting tools for home projects., • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment., • Understanding of common tools and safe tool usage., • Commitment to following safety procedures and company standards in all aspects of work. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Some trade school education or equivalent technical training is desired., • Experience with specialty rental equipment such as large generators, pumps, or HVAC systems is a plus., • Interest in learning and growing within a structured training environment under experienced mechanics., • Strong teamwork skills and willingness to assist with non-mechanical tasks such as cycle counts and shop organization., • Comfort working with diesel-powered equipment and basic diagnostic tools., • Motivation to build a long-term career in equipment maintenance and rental services. Work Environment You will work in a large, open 40,000-square-foot facility that operates primarily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., typically totaling 40–45 hours per week and occasionally up to 50 hours. The shop is a non-climate-controlled open garage environment with large doors and fans, which means it can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The facility includes a break room and water coolers, and you are encouraged to stay hydrated throughout the day. The schedule includes a 30-minute lunch break and two 10-minute breaks. You will work around various rental tools and equipment, including generators, concrete grinders, solar light towers, industrial jackhammers, and other construction and home-project equipment, using standard shop tools and equipment to perform maintenance and repairs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
