Job Description Job Title: Automation Maintenance Technician (Note: Relocation Role) Job Description The Automation Maintenance Technician maintains and optimizes highly automated warehouse systems by performing corrective, preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance on complex electro-mechanical equipment. This role focuses on troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation-related issues, diagnosing problems through PLCs and industrial networks, and implementing long-term reliability improvements. The technician documents all work in a CMMS, collaborates closely with equipment suppliers, and helps ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of advanced material handling technologies. Responsibilities • Perform corrective, preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance on automated warehouse equipment, including conveyors, automated storage and retrieval systems, robotics, autonomous vehicles, and related systems., • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation-related equipment failures to quickly restore operation and minimize downtime., • Diagnose automation and controls issues using PLC diagnostics, HMIs, industrial networking tools, electrical schematics, and manufacturer documentation., • Modify equipment settings and operational parameters to optimize performance, improve throughput, and enhance system reliability., • Conduct structured root cause analysis (RCA), PDCA, and other problem-solving methodologies to identify and eliminate recurring equipment failures., • Analyze equipment performance trends to improve reliability, reduce unplanned downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives., • Document maintenance activities, equipment history, root causes, and corrective actions in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure accurate records and knowledge sharing., • Partner with equipment suppliers and OEMs during troubleshooting, warranty support, and equipment improvement activities to implement effective technical solutions., • Support safe operation of automated systems by following established procedures, identifying potential hazards, and contributing to a strong safety culture., • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to support commissioning, upgrades, and optimization of automated warehouse systems. Essential Skills • 5–7 years of experience as a maintenance technician working with automated or industrial equipment., • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with both electrical and mechanical systems, including servo motors and electro-mechanical components., • Proficiency in troubleshooting PLCs, including experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or comparable PLC platforms., • Experience working on conveyor systems, including conveyor maintenance and repair., • Experience with Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), conveyors, robotics, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), or similar automation technologies., • Ability to troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo systems, industrial networking, and automated controls., • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record and track maintenance activities., • Strong skills in troubleshooting electro-mechanical and mechatronic systems, including servo motors and pneumatics., • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, manufacturer documentation, and technical drawings., • Comfort working at heights up to 40 meters (131 feet) within an automated warehouse environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and PDCA., • Familiarity with industrial HMIs and diagnostic tools for automation and control systems., • Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems used in automated material handling equipment., • Exposure to high-speed material handling technologies and advanced warehouse automation., • Experience collaborating with equipment manufacturers and global engineering teams on system improvements and troubleshooting., • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret equipment performance trends and recommend reliability improvements., • Effective communication skills to document findings, share knowledge, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Work Environment This position is fully on-site within a highly automated warehouse environment that includes automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), conveyors, robotics, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and other industrial automation equipment. The role operates on 12-hour shifts, with coverage on both day and night shifts. All new hires will initially work on an administrative day shift until approximately March/April 2027 before transitioning to their assigned shift. The environment involves working around moving machinery, high-speed material handling systems, and elevated structures, and the technician must be comfortable working at heights up to 40 meters (131 feet). Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Pittsburgh, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $76648.00 - $76648.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
