Job Description Job Title: Concrete Carpenter Job Description This role involves performing concrete finishing and related construction tasks for residential and commercial projects, including curb and gutter work, sidewalks, and flatwork. You will set forms, pour and finish concrete using hand tools, and support subdivision builds while working outdoors in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with regular overtime. Responsibilities • Set concrete forms to the desired pitch, depth, and alignment for curb and gutter, sidewalks, and other flatwork., • Spread, level, and smooth concrete using hand floats, trowels, jointers, and edgers., • Perform grading and earthwork preparation to ensure proper base and drainage for concrete placements., • Place and finish concrete for flatwork and curb and gutter projects according to project specifications., • Support building of subdivisions by assisting with form setting, concrete placement, and finishing activities., • Work toward the ability to set and pour approximately 10 yards of concrete per day individually, and contribute to crew pours of 350–500 yards per day on curb and gutter projects., • Learn to read stakes and layout markings to correctly set forms and elevations under supervision., • Use hand tools and basic construction equipment safely and effectively on site., • Assist with site cleanup, debris removal, and maintaining an organized and safe work area., • Perform general commercial construction labor tasks as needed, including paving support and other related duties., • Follow instructions from supervisors and collaborate with crew members to complete projects on schedule., • Work consistent weekly hours, typically between 40–60 hours, with flexibility to work additional overtime during peak season. Essential Skills • At least 2 years of experience in concrete finishing, including placing and finishing flatwork and curb and gutter., • Hands-on experience using concrete finishing tools such as hand floats, trowels, jointers, and edgers., • Ability to set forms to the correct pitch, depth, and alignment, or strong willingness and aptitude to be trained in form setting., • Experience with grading and earthwork preparation for concrete projects., • Practical knowledge of concrete construction, paving, and finishing processes., • Capability to read or learn to read stakes and layout markings for elevations and form placement., • Physical ability to perform labor-intensive outdoor work, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods., • Reliability and consistency in attendance and punctuality, especially for high-volume concrete pours., • Willingness and ability to work 40–60+ hours per week, including frequent overtime., • Comfort working in all weather conditions in an outdoor construction environment., • Ability to use hand tools safely and effectively on construction sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Ownership of personal hand tools suitable for concrete finishing and general construction tasks., • Experience working on commercial construction sites and performing general labor duties., • Familiarity with blueprint reading or strong interest in learning to interpret construction plans., • Experience in site cleanup and maintaining organized, safe work areas., • Experience with curb and gutter crews or high-volume concrete pours., • Strong work ethic, with the ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing job site needs., • Dependable, team-oriented mindset with clear communication and a focus on safety. Work Environment The role is based in an outdoor construction environment where you will work in all weather conditions throughout the year. Typical schedules include long days with substantial overtime during peak season, often Monday through Saturday, with total weekly hours ranging from 50 to 70. Most projects are located in Colorado Springs, with occasional work in nearby areas such as Castle Rock. You will use a variety of hand tools and basic construction equipment on active job sites, performing physically demanding tasks on uneven terrain. Dress should be appropriate for construction work and varying weather, including durable workwear and suitable footwear, with additional protective gear as required by site conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Colorado Springs, CO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
