Chichester Festival Theatre is seeking a skilled Building Service Engineer with an electrical background to help maintain and support our award-winning venues, including the Festival Theatre, Minerva Theatre, The Nest and associated properties. This is a hands-on, varied role where no two days are the same, combining planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, building services, and live show support to ensure our theatres remain safe, welcoming and fully operational for audiences, performers and staff. \n Working as part of a small, dedicated Facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining a wide range of mechanical and electrical systems, carrying out statutory checks, building maintenance, liaising with specialist contractors and supporting sustainability initiatives across our sites. We are looking for someone with recognised electrical engineering qualifications, strong problem-solving skills and a practical, multi-skilled approach. If you take pride in maintaining safe, high-performing buildings, we'd love to hear from you. \n The position is to provide electro-mechanical support to the smooth running of the internationally acclaimed Chichester Festival Theatre, Minerva Theatre, Steven Pimlott Building, The Nest and all properties under the Theatre’s ownership. \n The Building Service Engineer will be responsible for the interior and exterior of all buildings and associated grounds under the control of Chichester Festival Theatre. They will be responsible for daily show cover. This will include, but not be limited to, mechanical, electrical, horticultural, statutory, ground maintenance, reactive maintenance and servicing works, external areas and systems under the ownership of the Theatre. \n We are looking for a qualified Building Service Engineer with an electrical background to join our small, motivated maintenance team. You should have a sound working knowledge of mechanical plant and experience of PPM schedules and new installations. Take part in an out of hours call out rota. \n Key Responsibilities \n\n • Providing show cover, ensuring buildings, plant and equipment are operational and in good working order\n, • Responsible for site specific, periodic and statutory documentation, ensuring they are always kept up to date\n, • Responsible for reactive maintenance of all buildings, plant and equipment\n, • Carry out reactive maintenance of all buildings, plant, equipment and associated grounds under the control of Chichester Festival Theatre to ensure all services are in good working order including painting, plumbing, carpentry, gardening and general building repairs\n, • Liaise with external contractors providing specialist routine maintenance\n, • Carry out routine PPM maintenance to AHU, FCU, MVHR and A/C units\n, • Carry out routine testing of water systems, emergency lighting and Fire Alarm System recording results in relevant logbooks\n, • Recording monthly electric, water and gas meter readings\n, • Carry out auditorium seat removal to enable wheelchair access, seating alterations, repairs and servicing as required\n, • Training to be provided as necessary\n, • To report on any plant/equipment/installations deterioration and recommend required action.\n, • To be proactive in support of sustainability and energy saving initiatives. To assist the Facilities Manager in promoting energy reduction initiatives across all of theatre sites. This will require good communication skills and enthusiasm to engage staff and public in sustainability awareness.\n, • Accurately complete PPMs to agreed and specified timescales and write reports as required.\n, • To provide Building Service cover in the event of an emergency, and to respond to emergency situations in accordance with the theatre’s emergency procedures.\n, • To oversee standards of work and assist in training of Building Operatives, Apprentices and new members of staff.\n\n Note: This is not a stage position, there is no overlap with the stage crew roles. The role is maintaining the safe working environment of the theatre buildings, plant and grounds, for all to enjoy and experience. \n We'd love to hear from you if you have the following experience / qualifications \n\n • Related qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Facilities maintenance\n, • Working knowledge and understanding of building management systems.\n, • Demonstrable communication skills at all levels when working with other departments, the public and contractors\n, • Effective problem solving with the ability to achieve pragmatic solutions.\n, • A recognised Electrical Engineering apprenticeship\n, • A C&G part 3 qualifications or equivalent (e.g. FTC/ONC)\n, • Able to demonstrate a reasonable knowledge of statutory health and safety requirements.\n, • Demonstrate high levels of adaptability; quick to take on board new ideas, logical in addressing technical or customer related issues\n, • Diverse and flexible multi-skilled worker with a strong customer service focus\n, • The ability to work as part of a team as well as the ability on his/her own initiative, without supervision.\n, • The ability to work at height from various platforms including Vertical Powered Platforms and scaffold towers and ability to work in confined enclosed spaces.\n, • The ability to remain calm under pressure, in stressful situations, and in an emergency.\n, • Basic computer literacy.\n, • A good command of written and spoken English.\n, • Experience in areas such as COSHH, IOSH, Manual handling\n, • PASMA and/or IPAF – MEWP certificate\n, • Full UK Drivers’licence\n, • Portable appliance testing\n, • Interest in sustainability and efficiency\n, • BMS experience (Trend)\n\n \n
