You know that feeling when you’ve been organising something for weeks, every little detail finally comes together and you can stand back and think, yep, that worked because I was on it? You’ll get quite a lot of that here. As Event Operations Coordinator, you’ll be behind sporting events across the UK and overseas, making sure everything needed for race day is ready long before the competitors arrive. The bibs. The timing chips. The competitor data. The printing. The packing. All those details most people never think about. You will. Because when you’re the Event Operations Coordinator, your job is to make sure nothing gets forgotten. Once an event is confirmed, you’ll pick up the detail and start pulling everything together. You might have several events on the go at once, all at completely different stages. One needs bibs ordering. You’ve got competitor data to sort in Excel, a delivery that needs checking and boxes that have to be packed and dispatched before the courier arrives. If reading that makes you feel slightly stressed, this probably isn’t your role. If you’re already mentally making a list and working out what needs doing first, keep reading. Because that’s the kind of person who’ll enjoy being an Event Operations Coordinator here. You’ll probably have worked somewhere before where lots of things were happening at once. Maybe that’s events. Maybe hospitality, leisure, logistics or a busy operations environment. Your job title matters less than whether you’re the person people trust to remember the detail. You’re organised without needing someone standing over you. You spot the typo on the proof before it goes to print. You know which deadline can move and which absolutely cannot. And when something doesn’t go to plan, you don’t spend twenty minutes talking about the problem. You work out what needs to happen next. There’s a hands-on side to the Event Operations Coordinator role as well. Some days you’ll be dealing with customers and suppliers, raising purchase orders or booking hotels, vehicles and flights for event teams. Other days, you’ll be checking stock, unpacking deliveries or helping get everything packed and ready to leave. It’s not a role where “that’s not really my job” works particularly well .It’s a small team. People muck in. They have a laugh, there’s plenty of banter and the atmosphere is pretty relaxed. When event season gets going, it gets busy. March to mid-June and September to October are typically the peak periods, and there will be weekends when you’re supporting events too. You’ll be taking over from a lady who has been here for nearly 12 years. That’s worth mentioning because she’s loved working here. You’ll also have an Operations Manager taking ownership of the wider operation, so when priorities clash or something needs a bigger decision, it doesn’t all land with you. What they need from you is ownership of your bit. Know what events are coming. Know what needs ordering. Keep the customer and suppliers talking. Make sure the data is right. Get everything where it needs to be, when it needs to be there. Then enjoy seeing it all come together. You’ll need to be comfortable using Excel for sorting, filtering and manipulating data, but you don’t need to be an Excel wizard. You will be rewarded with a competitive salary of £30-35k. The hours of work are 9-5 Monday -Friday, however due to the nature of the role there will be a requirement of some weekend work both in the UK and overseas, however this will be fully subsidised, and you will accrue days off in lieu. As Operations Manager your working week could include preparing for a major running event, cycling race, equestrian competition, fitness event, or international motorsport weekend. You might be there for some of them, but most of your work happens long before the event starts, making sure the people, equipment, vehicles, accommodation, and data all come together exactly when they need to. There’s a small team who know the customers, know the equipment, and know what it takes to deliver an event. What they need now is an operations Manager to bring all of that together and become the person they go to day to day. You’ll know what events are coming up, where the pressure points are and what your team needs. If there’s a problem with equipment, a question about logistics or something hasn’t quite gone to plan, you’ll make the call and keep things moving. And no two days are particularly alike. One day you could be preparing everything needed for a major sporting event, the next working through competitor data in Excel or making sure an order is packed and ready to leave the warehouse. That variety is part of what makes being Operations Manager here interesting. You’re not coming in to change everything either. Get to know the people, the customers, the events and how everything works first. Then start asking the questions. Could we make that process simpler? Why does that keep causing us a problem? Is there a better way of doing it? You’ll work directly with the two Directors, so you’ll have the autonomy to do something about the answers. As Operations Manager, the people side matters too. It’s a small business; everyone gets involved and the team are used to doing a bit of everything. They need someone who can give them direction, manage the workload and get stuck in alongside them when needed. And you do need to enjoy the world of sport. You don’t need sports timing experience, but you might already work as a leisure, events, hospitality or somewhere else where sport has been part of your working life. Maybe you manage a leisure centre. Perhaps you’ve coordinated sporting events or spent years around competitors, organisers, and venues. You understand that events happen at weekends, plans change and when people are waiting for a result, you can’t tell them you’ll sort it on Monday. For some of the larger events, you’ll be there too, working alongside the team, meeting customers and seeing everything you’ve planned come together. The business has been involved in sport at the highest level over the years, including the Olympic and Winter Olympic Games and World Athletics Championships. Today, its calendar covers high-profile sporting events across the UK and internationally. You will be rewarded with a competitive salary of £50-55k and work directly with the 2 directors to shape the future of this business. The hours of work are 9-5 Monday -Friday, however due to the nature of the role there will be a requirement of some weekend work both in the UK and overseas, however this will be fully subsidised, and you will accrue days off in lieu.
