This is much more than a traditional care role. It is a flatmate-style Personal Assistant role , where you will provide practical, personal and social support while becoming part of an active and sociable lifestyle. From meeting friends and going to gigs, pubs and the cinema, to holidays, days out and simply enjoying time together, no two days are necessarily the same. The role Location: Truro Hours: 24 hours per week Shifts: Day shifts and sleeping night shifts Pay: £12.71 per hour Start date: Immediate start available Holiday: 5.6 weeks per year, pro rata You will support our client with her personal care and health and social care needs, as well as helping her to get out and about and enjoy her busy social life. Previous care experience is not required. Full training will be provided to ensure you are confident and fully supported in meeting our client's individual needs. About our client Our client is a 25-year-old woman with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type 2 . She is a full-time powered wheelchair user and leads an active, independent and very social life. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to social events, gigs and pubs, and having friends over to her home. She also has two small dogs, Winnie and Fig , who are an important part of her daily routine. She has a bubbly, fun and relaxed personality, a great sense of humour and enjoys meeting new people. In her own words: My diagnosis is Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type 2, which is a genetic condition. This means I have weak muscles throughout my body and I am a full-time powered wheelchair user. My hobbies include socialising with friends and meeting new people. I go to social events, such as gigs and pubs, and enjoy having friends over to my house. This is an important part of my life, and I need carers who enjoy accompanying me and being involved as part of my friendship group. I have a bubbly, fun and relaxed personality and I hope to build a friendship with my carers who have similar personalities. I like my personal care to be completed discreetly, and I appreciate carers who take initiative with the support they provide. This means I don't have to explain things repeatedly and can continue with my day-to-day routine without my disability becoming a barrier to being involved in things. I have two small dogs called Winnie and Fig. Part of my daily routine is walking them, which I need help with. About you You don't need to have experience in every aspect of our client's care full training will be provided . We are looking for someone who is: Physically fit, calm, patient and caring Friendly, approachable and able to build a genuine rapport Organised and able to use their own initiative Mature, responsible and reliable A good communicator Able to speak fluent English Clean and tidy in both appearance and approach A confident driver with a full, clean UK driving licence Flexible and willing to cover shifts during sickness and annual leave Someone with a good sense of humour who enjoys being sociable and getting involved Most importantly, you should be someone who is positive, respectful, dependable and enjoys helping another person live life on their own terms.
